Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Real Estate Lending Paralegal with a strong accounting or finance background to support loan origination, documentation review, and post-closing processes. This role sits at the intersection of legal, finance, and operations, helping ensure accuracy, compliance, and cost control across our real estate lending activities.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, analytically minded, and experienced in reviewing complex loan documents while also understanding the financial implications behind them.
Key Responsibilities
Loan Document Review & Processing
- Draft, review and analyze loan agreements, promissory notes, deeds of trust/mortgages, guaranties, and related closing documents
- Identify inconsistencies, missing items, and key risk provisions
- Coordinate with outside counsel to resolve documentation issues
- Maintain organized, audit-ready digital and physical loan files
Closing & Post-Closing Support
- Assist with loan closings, including checklist management and document tracking
- Ensure all executed documents are complete, accurate, and properly recorded
- Track post-closing deliverables and follow up with relevant parties
Accounting & Financial Oversight
- Review loan terms for financial accuracy (interest rates, fees, amortization, payment terms)
- Reconcile loan funding amounts and closing statements
- Track legal and closing costs by deal
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting legal spend related to lending activity
Legal Billing & Cost Control
- Review and audit outside counsel invoices for accuracy and efficiency
- Flag discrepancies, overbilling, or non-compliant entries
- Maintain reporting on legal spend by matter, firm, and transaction
Process Improvement & Reporting
- Help develop standardized templates, checklists, and workflows
- Build and maintain tracking systems for loan pipeline and legal costs
- Generate internal reports on deal status, risk items, and spend
- Draft and prepare loan term sheets and Letters of Intent (LOIs) for prospective borrowers based on approved deal structures
- Track issued LOIs and maintain organized records of borrower communications and revisions
- Translate underwriting assumptions into clear, accurate loan terms (pricing, leverage, fees, covenants, timelines)
Loan Servicing & Portfolio Management
- Independently service a portfolio of loans, including tracking payment activity, insurance coverage, property taxes, and maturities
- Reconcile borrower payments to loan balances, ensuring accurate application of principal, interest, and fees
- Monitor delinquencies, calculate default interest/late fees, and escalate exceptions
- Prepare and validate payoff statements, extension terms, and modification calculations
- Maintain accurate loan-level accounting records and servicing reports in compliance with loan documents
Qualifications
Required:
- 3–7+ years of experience as a paralegal in real estate, lending, or finance
- Strong familiarity with commercial real estate loan documentation
- Working knowledge of financial concepts (interest calculations, loan structures, closing statements)
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Paralegal certificate or equivalent legal experience
- Experience reviewing legal invoices or managing outside counsel
- Advanced Excel or financial analysis skills

Compensation
- Salary: [$80,000 – $120,000+, depending on experience]
- Bonus depending on annual performance
