A Recovery Driver operates specialized trucks to tow, transport, and recover broken-down, damaged, or immobilized vehicles safely from roadsides or accident scenes. They are responsible for loading/unloading vehicles, providing minor roadside assistance (e.g., jump-starts, tire changes), maintaining equipment, and complying with traffic laws.
Key Responsibilities:
- Vehicle Recovery & Transport: Tow or transport vehicles (light to heavy-duty) using winches, flatbeds, or underlift apparatus.
- Roadside Assistance: Assist motorists with immediate issues such as flat tires, dead batteries, or minor mechanical failures.
- Safety & Compliance: Adhere to strict road safety regulations, secure loads properly, and maintain a safe working environment.
- Inspection & Maintenance: Conduct daily checks on recovery trucks and equipment to ensure operational readiness.
- Documentation & Communication: Maintain accurate records, including trip logs, service reports, and damage assessments.
- Customer Service: Provide professional, calm assistance to customers in distress.
Requirements:
- License: Valid driver's license (often requiring specific heavy-vehicle classifications).
- Experience: Previous experience in vehicle recovery and towing is typically required.
- Skills: Strong knowledge of vehicle mechanics, towing equipment operation, and local road navigation.
