The Recreation Coordinator will assist with general supervision and oversight of Parks and Recreation programs, primarily during weekday afternoon hours and weekends, serving as the Youth Program Coordinator. This position will report directly to the Parks & Recreation Director. Applicants should have a general working knowledge of municipal parks and recreation operations, strong organizational and communication skills, and available Monday-Sunday. Hours will vary by season, and weekday morning hours will be required during summer months to supervise and run Camp GC. Candidates should have prior experience working in a supervisory setting, and have a background in organized recreation programs and
facilities.Pay range is $18- $20/ hour pending experience.Flexible schedule with primarily weekday evening hours and weekends, with a weekly morning shiftguaranteed 29 hours per week
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Plan, organize, and promote recreational programs, classes, and special events at the Radcliff Community Center, Civic Ice Arena, and the City Parks.Plan, organize, and promote Camp GC, a youth half day summer camp, including hiring and management of camp staff, and developing and facilitating staff training.Recruit, assign, supervise, and train part-time employees, volunteers, and independent contractors providing youth instructional programming and services.Coordinate and manage relationships with independent instructors and contractors, including establishing program structures and compensation models such as the 70/30 revenue split for instructional classes.Plan, promote, and host special events, including development of event logistics, staffing plans, supplies, and on-site coordination.Plan, organize, supervise staff, and provide training support for the afterschool tutoring program serving 30 or more students per day in grades K-12.Assist with purchasing program supplies, equipment, and materials necessary for recreational programs, events, and daily operations.Perform light bookkeeping functions including processing payments to vendors and independent contractors, maintaining financial documentation, and assisting with program revenue
tracking.Works closely with graphic designer regarding recreation programs and special event promotions such as flyers, social media, and program guide content.Organizes registration procedures and payment structures for recreation programs, classes, and special events.Assists with collecting various financial records and prepares budget recommendations based on past performance, current needs, and future programming goals; monitors expenditures throughout the fiscal year for conformity to approved budgets.Maintains required records of activities and programs, completes reports, and makes recommendations for improvement to recreational programming and service delivery.Provides customer service and dispute resolution, as appropriate.Researches and prepares reports at the discretion of the Recreation Supervisor and/or Parks and Recreation Director.Attends meetings, seminars, and conferences of professional associates and other organizations to remain current on trends and developments in the parks and recreation field and to represent the City of Garden City’s interests.Assist with front desk operations as needed, including greeting visitors, answering phones, providing program information, processing registrations and payments, and supporting daily operations of the Radcliff Community Center.Assist with inventory control and supply management for the Radcliff Community Center Café, including tracking usage levels and coordinating restocking needs.Performs other related duties, as assigned.
