Recycling/ Solid Waste Attendant
Performs routine work of an unskilled or skilled nature at solid waste transfer site, requiring the ability to do heavy physical labor efficiently with an ability to do basic math. Attendants are required to work Saturday’s
*Works under the direct supervision of the recycling/transfer station manager. After instructions have been given work is often performed without direct supervision. Work is reviewed for conformance with instructions and for the safety and care exercised in operating. Must have the ability to obtain New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services Waste Management Division Solid Waste Certification.
*Duties: (Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include all duties which may be found in positions of this class.)
1. Trained to operate loading and recycling equipment such as hand and power tools, glass crusher, some light equipment such as skid-steer loaders and forklifts, motor vehicles.
2. Working environment is 60% inside and 40% outside.
3. Understands and implements the recycling/solid waste disposal facility operating rules and procedures.
4. Monitors access to solid waste disposal facilities.
5. Conducts visual inspection of loads as needed to prevent disposal of prohibited materials.
6. Explain operating policies and procedures to facility customers to ensure proper use.
7. Maintains the cleanliness and neatness of solid waste disposal facility.
8. Maintains effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
9. Assist customers in the appropriate placement of refuse and recyclables and record same.
10. Assesses and collects fees, as required, by established schedules.
11. Maintains the recycling area in a clean orderly condition and ensures the proper disposal and classification of all recycled materials.
12. Sorts and packages cardboard, newspaper, aluminum and other recyclables and store them in a safe healthful manner.
13. Familiar with and executes safe work procedures associated with assigned work.
14. Perform routine and preventative maintenance on facility equipment
15. Performs loading trucks with recyclable material
16. Monitors the burning pit
17. Willing to learn the administrative duties as directed by the Recycling/ Solid Waste Manager.
18. Maybe trained to assist the Recycling/ Solid Waste Manager with administrative duties upon his assignment
or may include: Deposits, adding and updating current inventory sheets, bills of lading and preparing
invoices, locally selling town waste bags, reconciling commercial accounts, keeping a cash box daily.
19. Performs other related duties as required.
Salary Range: $20.46 to $21.71 (Step 1 to Step 3)
