Make a Difference

The Referral Assistant works in conjunction with the Oncology Leadership Team and Health Information Management Leadership. The referral assistant performs all aspects of the referral duties, including scheduling appointments and referrals. They collaborate with physicians, nursing, and other staff to coordinate the delivery and receipts of medical information. They serve as a leader and oversee that work is completed, ensuring adherence to Network HIM policies and procedures.


Exceptional Skills and Qualifications

Applicants for this position must have strong listening and communication skills and work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment. The applicant must be able to multi-task, have attention to detail, and have strong organizational skills. Applicants must demonstrate good judgement for maintaining confidentiality.

  • Two-years of experience in a physician office, HIM department or medical relation position.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Graduate of accredited Medical Assistant training program or HIM experience preferred.
  • Ability to work with peers in a team situation and follow specific directions and create a positive work environment.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients
  • Demonstrate a functional and technical understanding of applicable scheduling and billing software, intranet and Internet usage, Excel/ Word software, E-mail usage and Web-based applications
