Position Description

BBB Pathways is seeking a dynamic and experienced English Language Arts Instructor to lead our Regents Test Prep course for high school students. The instructor will deliver targeted instruction in reading comprehension, literary analysis, and argumentative writing to prepare students for the NYS ELA Regents examination.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Design and deliver focused ELA lessons aligned with the NYS Regents ELA (Common Core) exam framework.
• Teach critical reading, text analysis, evidence-based argument writing, and literary response skills.
• Guide students through close reading of informational and literary texts.
• Provide structured writing practice including argument essays and literary analysis responses.
• Administer timed practice exams and provide detailed, actionable written feedback.
• Develop and distribute vocabulary, grammar, and comprehension review materials.
• Track student attendance, growth, and performance and submit documentation to program leadership.
• Differentiate instruction to address varied reading and writing proficiency levels.
• Cultivate a supportive and intellectually stimulating learning environment.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in English, English Education, Communications, or a related field.
• Experience teaching high school ELA or preparing students for the NYS ELA Regents exam.
• Strong knowledge of the NYS ELA Regents exam structure, rubrics, and Common Core standards.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish (required).
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to provide constructive feedback on student writing.

Preferred

• NYS Teaching Certification in English Language Arts (or equivalent).
• Experience with reading intervention or writing workshop models.
• Familiarity with scaffolding techniques for English Language Learners.

Pay: $50.00 - $60.00 per hour
