What You'll Be Doing:
As a Regional Plumbing Technician, you will serve as the subject matter expert for plumbing systems across a portfolio of Equity Residential apartment communities. Under the general direction of the Facilities Team, you will provide advanced plumbing maintenance, diagnostics, and system oversight while delivering exceptional resident service and proactively maintaining the integrity of domestic water, drainage, and related mechanical systems. This person is traveling to different properties throughout the Bay Area on a daily basis. A company owned vehicle will be provided.
Advanced Plumbing Maintenance & Diagnostics
- Respond to plumbing service requests and complex work orders in a timely manner
- Perform advanced plumbing troubleshooting and repairs, including:
- Domestic water supply systems (copper, PEX, CPVC, galvanized)
- Drain, waste, and vent (DWV) systems
- Leak detection and pipe repair
- Toilet rebuilds and replacements
- Faucet, cartridge, valve, and mixing valve repairs
- Water heater diagnostics and replacement
- Pressure regulators and shutoff systems
- Recirculation systems (where applicable)
- Clear and repair drain line stoppages using appropriate equipment (augers, drain machines)
- Diagnose recurring plumbing failures and determine root cause
- Monitor plumbing infrastructure condition and identify aging system risks
- Ensure plumbing work complies with local codes and safety standards
Scheduled Maintenance & Infrastructure Oversight
- Perform preventative plumbing inspections in occupied and vacant units
- Complete regular inspections to proactively identify plumbing system deficiencies
- Monitor maintenance and upkeep of water heaters and related mechanical systems
- Maintain accurate service logs and records of plumbing repairs
- Recommend replacement plans for high-failure components to reduce repeat service calls
Emergency & Water Loss Response
- Respond to during and after-hours plumbing emergencies as required
- Take immediate corrective action to mitigate water damage
- Identify the source of leaks and implement temporary and permanent repairs
- Coordinate with restoration vendors when necessary
Leadership & Technical Resource
- Serve as plumbing technical resource for Service Technicians
- Provide guidance and coaching on basic plumbing troubleshooting
- Manage plumbing inventory and parts ordering
- Help reduce repeat plumbing service requests through root-cause problem solving
Work Schedule: Must be able to work any assigned shift, including weekends, and respond to after-hours emergencies when assigned on-call responsibilities. Shifts may change according to business needs.
What You'll Need To Thrive:
- 4+ years of hands-on plumbing experience
- Advanced plumbing troubleshooting and repair skills
- Multi-family plumbing systems experience
- Ability to diagnose recurring plumbing issues across multiple units
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
- Computer literacy
- Valid Driver's License and a good driving record (a company vehicle will be provided during working hours)
- Ability to frequently lift, grasp, and carry materials and equipment up to 50 lbs, and perform prolonged or repeated standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and lifting
- Ability to work inside and outside in all types of weather
- Service team employees, with limited exceptions, are required to use their own Smartphone to perform certain aspects of their job
Bonus Qualifications:
- Trade School certificate/diploma
- Journeyman Plumber license (where applicable)
- Backflow certification
- Multi-family or high-density residential plumbing experience
- Experience leading or mentoring maintenance team members
Salary: $40.05 - $48.95/hr *Employees are eligible for overtime pay and performance incentives. The current schedule (which is subject to change) is Monday - Friday.
The successful candidate's starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, and qualifications.
