Duties
- Prepare treatment rooms and sterilize dental instruments using aseptic techniques to maintain a sterile environment.
- Assist dentists chairside during various procedures including restorations, endodontics, prosthodontics, and pediatric dentistry treatments.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-ray) ensuring proper technique and patient safety, including vital signs monitoring when necessary.
- Operate dental software systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, Epic, and EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems for accurate documentation of medical and dental records.
- Manage patient flow by greeting patients as a dental receptionist, scheduling appointments, updating medical histories, and ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Perform medical imaging using 3D scanners or other advanced technology to support diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Educate patients on dental terminology, procedures, post-treatment care, and preventive practices to promote oral health awareness.
- Maintain infection control standards by adhering to protocols related to aseptic technique and anatomy knowledge to prevent cross-contamination.
- Support the dental team with medical documentation, coding for insurance claims, and managing electronic health records efficiently.
- Assist with pediatric dentistry procedures by creating a comforting environment for young patients while ensuring safety protocols are followed.
Requirements
- Valid certification as a Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) or equivalent licensing in accordance with state or local regulations.
- Proven experience in general dentistry; experience in pediatric dentistry is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control practices, and aseptic techniques.
- Proficiency with dental software such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, Epic or similar EMR systems; familiarity with medical coding is a plus.
- Ability to operate radiographic equipment safely and accurately while monitoring patient vital signs when needed.
- Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with patients of all ages—including pediatrics—and team members.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure confidentiality of medical records and patient information.
- Experience with medical imaging tools like 3D scanners is advantageous but not required.
