Responsibilities
- Perform professional dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar buildup
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, including vital signs and medical history review, to ensure safe treatment plans
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and treatment options tailored to their needs
- Assist the dentist during procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques for efficiency and patient comfort
- Take and interpret medical imaging such as X-rays while maintaining strict infection control and aseptic techniques
- Review and update medical records accurately within electronic medical record (EMR)
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations by safeguarding patient confidentiality at all times
Skills
- Proficiency with dental software systems such as Eaglesoft and Dentrix for documentation and scheduling
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control protocols, and aseptic techniques
- Experience in pediatric dentistry and working with pediatric patients is highly desirable
- Skilled in chairside assisting, including handling dental instruments, medical imaging equipment, and patient care tools
- Ability to assess patient needs comprehensively through patient assessment techniques and documentation review
- Familiarity with medical coding, medical terminology, and medical records management for accurate documentation
- Knowledge of general dentistry procedures, infection prevention standards, and HIPAA compliance regulations
