Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar buildup
- Conduct patient assessments by taking vital signs, medical histories, and reviewing medical records to ensure safe treatment planning
- Assist with chairside procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques to enhance efficiency and patient comfort
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices and the importance of preventive care tailored to pediatric and general dentistry needs
- Utilize EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Dentrix for accurate documentation review and record keeping
- Support infection control protocols by practicing aseptic techniques and adhering to HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality
- Collaborate with the dental team during procedures involving medical imaging, medical coding, and documentation review for comprehensive patient care
Qualifications
- Valid state licensure as a Registered Dental Hygienist with current certification in CPR and infection control practices
- Proven experience in dental office settings, with familiarity in pediatric dentistry preferred but not required
- Proficiency in using dental software such as Dentrix for charting, scheduling, and record management
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, and infection control procedures
- Ability to perform dental assisting duties including chairside assisting with a focus on pediatrics when needed
- Excellent communication skills to effectively educate patients of all ages about oral health strategies
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and best practices for maintaining confidentiality of medical records
