Core responsibilities
- Patient assessment and monitoring: Assess patients' needs, monitor their condition, and observe and interpret their symptoms. This includes taking vital signs like blood pressure and heart rate.
- Treatment and medication administration: Administer medications and treatments according to physician's orders, which can include changing wound dressings and performing other routine procedures.
- Care planning: Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare team members to develop and modify individualized care plans.
- Patient and family education: Educate patients and their families on treatment plans, medication reviews, and health-related issues.
- Documentation: Keep accurate and detailed records of patient care, including observations, treatments, and progress.
- Emergency care: Provide immediate medical care in emergency situations.
- Collaboration and supervision: Work with a team of healthcare professionals and may supervise other staff like LPNs or nursing assistants.
