Registered Nurse

Job Summary:

  • The Registered Nurse – IVF Procedures / Operations Unit is responsible for delivering safe, high-quality nursing care to patients undergoing assisted reproductive procedures. Nursing care is provided as an integral part of the multidisciplinary treatment plan, in accordance with medical orders, clinic policies, nursing standards, and professional ethics. The Staff Nurse supports the Head Nurse and Charge Nurse in the clinical, administrative, and educational aspects of nursing care delivery within the IVF procedures unit.

Tasks and Job Responsibilities

Clinical & Procedural Responsibilities:

  • Provides comprehensive nursing care for patients undergoing IVF-related procedures in accordance with approved clinical protocols and standards.
  • Prepares patients physically and psychologically prior to procedures, verifies patient identity, consent, and procedural readiness.
  • Assists physicians during IVF procedures, maintaining strict aseptic technique and patient safety standards.
  • Administers medications, IV fluids, and other treatments as prescribed and monitors patient response throughout the peri-procedural period.
  • Monitors patient vital signs and condition before, during, and after procedures and promptly reports abnormalities or complications.
  • Initiates and performs nursing interventions related to comfort, positioning, hydration, elimination, skin integrity, and emotional support.
  • Maintains accountability for narcotics, controlled medications, and medication safety in accordance with clinic policy.

Documentation & Communication:

  • Accurately documents all nursing assessments, interventions, patient responses, and outcomes using approved written and electronic systems.
  • Reports significant clinical findings, incidents, or variances through established communication channels.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, physicians, embryologists, anesthesia (if applicable), and allied health staff in a professional, respectful, and confidential manner.
  • Demonstrates cultural sensitivity and awareness of patient and family expectations.

Unit Support & Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Assumes responsibility for clinical care activities during assigned shifts.
  • Supports administrative and operational functions of the IVF procedures unit, including staff coordination, patient flow, and service continuity.
  • Assists with manpower utilization, shift coverage, and unit coordination as required.
  • Ensures the IVF procedures unit is maintained in a clean, safe, and organized condition at all times.

Quality, Safety & Infection Control:

  • Complies with infection prevention and control policies and sterile processing standards within IVF procedure areas.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives, audits, incident reporting, and corrective action plans.
  • Evaluates the quality of nursing care provided and contributes to problem identification and resolution.
  • Demonstrates the ability to make sound clinical decisions, manage urgent situations, and anticipate potential patient safety risks.

Equipment, Medication & Inventory Management:

  • Ensures safe handling, storage, and administration of medications in accordance with clinic policy.
  • Maintains accountability for equipment, medical supplies, and consumables before and at the end of each shift.
  • Coordinates with Biomedical Engineering for proper use and timely maintenance of procedural equipment.
  • Utilizes the hospital computerized system for inventory management and charging of consumables as required.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Graduate of a recognized professional nursing program.
  • Current and valid professional nursing license in Saudi Arabia
  • Minimum of three (3) years acute care nursing experience, with at least two (2) years in operating room or procedural settings, preferably IVF-related.
  • Spoken and written English is required; Arabic language skills are desirable.
  • Basic knowledge of computer applications and electronic nursing systems is desirable.
  • Knowledge of Middle Eastern culture and customs is highly desirable.
