DESCRIPTION
The Charge Nurse will work as part of the nursing and integrated care team with physicians, other nurses and healthcare professionals to provide care, monitor health conditions, plan long-short term care needs, administer medicine, use medical equipment, and advise clients and their families on illness, care and continued care after their stay.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Leads assigned shifts/processes of nursing staff and monitoring their needs while working the client floor
Complete supervisory report to Director of Nursing prior to end of scheduled shift.
Facilitates communication between admissions department and facility regarding potential new admissions including conduction nurses to nurse reports when needed for patient clearance.
Completes regular follow-ups with outside facilities for patients receiving off-site services
Tracks inventory of any medical supplies and house stock medications and reports inventory needs to Director of Nursing in a timely manner.
Ensure medical equipment on unit is functioning properly and notifying Director of Nursing of any deficiencies
Mentors and trains new nursing staff and ensures site-specific skills checklist is completed for each new nursing staff prior to staff member transitioning to work independently
Monitor patients condition and assess their needs to provide the highest quality care to our clients
Observe and assess patients and communicate findings to our providers
Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to formulate individualized treatment care plans
Perform routine procedures (vital signs, administration of medications including injections, blood draws, blood sugar checks, urine specimen collection, COVID-19 testing and document in client charts)
Adjust and administer patient medication and provide treatment according to provider orders
Ensure unit safely and infection control is maintained throughout the shift through tasks including but not limited to decontaminating medical equipment, sanitizing surfaces, etc.
Provide emergency medical care in patient emergency situations
Oversee any LPN staff working on shift and sign off on LPN assessments requiring RN sign-off
Foster a supportive and compassionate environment to care for patients and their families
Expand nursing knowledge and capabilities by attending educational workshops, conferences, participating in continuing education
Monitor and document medication administration and compliance as directed
Maintain accountability of all controlled substances according to federal and state regulations
Determine and implement specific detox protocols as designed by the physician
Assist in evaluating patients condition and progress with other team members
Observe and access patients for clinical signs and symptoms following a prescribed course of treatment
Uphold all HIPAA and OSHA requirements and ensure compliance with all Federal and State laws, regulations and guidelines
Ensure compliance with all facility and Buena V8sta Health & Recovery Centers protocols, procedures and guidelines
Report to Nursing Director and Executive Director all situations which require administrative intervention, including incident reports
Participate in quality management and staff meetings including mandatory trainings and monthly nursing meetings
Must commit to working one major holiday and one minor holiday within the calendar year
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
In a 12-hour work day: standing/walking up to 12 hours per day
Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling
Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting and reaching
Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals
You must have the ability to use tools and equipment required for the position
Mental Focus: Ability to read and communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Active Arizona RN License
BSC or Associates and/or BSN
Valid First Aid/CPR/CPI certifications or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
Valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
Proven experience as a registered nurse - 3-year minimum experience in nursing
Minimum 1-year supervisory experience in nursing
Excellent knowledge of nursing care methods and procedures
Excellent knowledge of emergency care
In depth knowledge of health and safety guidelines and procedures (sanitation, decontamination etc.) and dedication to following these at all times
A team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Responsible and compassionate
Outstanding organizational and multi-tasking skills
Patient with excellent problem-solving skills
If candidate self discloses in sobriety Buena Vista requires 1 year of continuous sobriety
Facilitating communication between other healthcare facilities for patient continuity of care
Completing nursing assessments including admission assessment, discharges, detox tool assessments (MSAS/COWS)
Knowledge in detox withdrawal symptoms and being able to easily recognize these signs
Ability to attend a minimum of one nursing meeting a month that may not coincide with floor work schedule
Must maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area in which they work as demonstrated through annual validations

Knowledge of detoxification regimens in substance abuse
Knowledge of basic techniques and methods to ground clients struggling with anxiety in a mental health or substance abuse setting
Ability to treat patients with dignity and empathy in challenging situations

Compassion for all patients facing trying physical and mental health crisis
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Current valid Registered Nurse License in the state of Arizona with NO restrictions
