Position Responsibilities


Position Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates ability to perform comprehensive head-to-toe assessments of mother and newborn.

  • Performs head-to-toe assessments on uncomplicated antepartum and gynecologic patients.
  • Assists with circumcision procedures and provides appropriate newborn care.
  • Demonstrates basic fetal monitoring knowledge; collaborates with L&D nurses to identify FHR patterns and respond appropriately.
  • Maintains competency in performing newborn hearing screenings.
  • Demonstrates ability to manage patients with central lines.
  • Adheres to bereavement policies while providing compassionate care to families experiencing fetal or newborn loss.
  • Floats within the maternal-child division as assigned per competency matrix.
  • Demonstrates ability to manage antepartum and postpartum patients safely and effectively.
  • Maintains NRP and fetal monitoring competencies every two years.
  • Performs comprehensive patient assessments, including neonatal admission assessments, ongoing shift-based system assessments, diagnostic data interpretation, and evaluation of psychosocial and family education needs.
  • Develops and updates interdisciplinary plans of care, establishing priorities based on patient problems and revising goals and standards of care according to patient progress and condition changes.
  • Implements safe, timely, and accurate nursing interventions, including medication administration, IV therapy, oxygen therapy, emergency response, urinary catheter insertion, glucose monitoring, specimen collection, and aseptic wound care.
  • Ensures accurate clinical documentation, including admission assessments, shift assessments, medication effectiveness, abnormal findings, 24-hour chart checks, transfer documentation, and patient progress toward goals.
  • Utilizes and maintains unit-specific equipment safely, adheres to standard precautions and hand hygiene, and provides individualized patient and family education related to diagnoses and care plans.
  • Demonstrates teamwork, communication, and leadership, including delegating tasks, resolving interpersonal issues, attending required meetings, completing annual competencies, and participating in unit in-services.
  • Supports quality improvement and operational efficiency by collecting PI data, identifying performance indicators, ensuring proper charging of supplies, and assisting with discharge planning, transfers, and length-of-stay evaluations.


Minimum qualifications:

  • Graduated from an accredited College of Nursing.
  • Current/Valid Florida RN Licensure.
  • BLS Certification required.
  • NRP Certification required.
