Typical hours are M-Th 7:30 am - 4:30 pm/F 7:30 am - 12:30 pm

Job Description

Job Title: Registered Nurse Supervisor

Reports To: Clinical Manager

FLSA Statue: Exempt

Summary: Provides prescribed medical and surgical treatment and personal care services of patients in a physician’s office by performing the following duties.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Ensure that all clinical staff communicates with patients and their families regarding office visits, surgeries, lab results, dressing changes, and pre and post operative instructions using HIPAA rules and guidelines.

RN’s may practice independently, in collaboration with MD/PA to ensure that patients receive appropriate, timely, well-coordinated care.

Ensure that all clinical staff can observe, document, assess patient signs and symptoms to identify and address health problems and unmet patient care needs.

Ensure that all clinical staff can measure vitals, preparing patients for examination, assisting provider surfing the examination.

Administer medications pursuant to a specific order from a provider. This included OTC medications, ointments, creams, and injectables as prescribed by the MD/PA., Ensure that all clinical staff know this according to the proper license.

Ensure propers clinical procedures such as wound checks, suture removals, and dressing changes using sterile techniques, refits and prior authorizations are followed by all staff.

Supervises care delivered by other health care personnel, such as LPN/CMA.

Ensure that the preparation of the local anesthetic, must be for use by the RN/LPN within the present shift and only for her/his patients.

Administers local anesthesia pursuant to a valid order from physician and ensure that clinical staff can do this base on their credentials.

Ensure that all clinical staff can set up trays/rooms for procedures following the guidelines in place.

Prepares patient for surgery/procedures (vitals, chair positioning, draping, documentation) and assists physician in surgeries (Biopsies, C&D, Dermabrasion, Excisions). Ensure clinical staff is following proper procedure while preforming this function.

Ensure staff can conducts post operative patient telephone calls and ensure that this is completed in a timely fashion.

Ensure that staff is discharging and reviews instructions with patient and/or family members with regard to HIPAA rules and guidelines.

Maintains and troubleshoots and clinical equipment as well and ensuring proper preventative maintenance is performed to keep equipment in the best performing condition.

Ensure the all operating and exam rooms are stocked with necessary supplies and paperwork.

Ensure that all operating and exam rooms, surgical instruments, and equipment are cleaned in a proper fashion following procedures or patient exams.

Ensure proper procedures for surgical trays and instruments for autoclave.

Ensure proper procedures for sterilizes trays, instruments, and other equipment is followed in the office.

Maintains CPR and ACLS certification and performs if necessary.

Attends clinical meetings, education programs, and training session of staff as required.*

Ensure that the clinical staff maintains O2 tanks, defibrillator, and AED to include proper monthly documentation if assigned.

Ensure that the clinical staff maintains crash cart medical supplies, medication cabinet list, and expired supplies if assigned.

Prepares QI projects as directed and assigned to staff as needed.

Answers and routes phone calls as needed and ensure that the staff is handling.

Ensure that the orders are completed for necessary medical supplies or notifies appropriate staff of needed supplies.

Evaluate schedule and approved time off request for clinical staff.

Oversee all Training for clinical staff.

Melanoma reporting to NYS when needed.

Prepare Annual reviews for all clinical staff, with assistance from Clinical Manager/Practice Manager

Control all clinical flow for the office daily.

Assign extra clinical tasks, to ensure the office runs efficiently.

Maintain needle stick information and education requirements.

Quarterly patient survey.

Maintain and assign schedule for float nurse, lunch schedule and late nurse schedule if needed.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Tasks that can not be performed by an RN

Medical diagnoses or prescribe medical treatment or drugs.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Provides guidance and direction to staff of up to employees in the positions of Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse and Medical Assistant. Assist in development and maintains an effective staff through selection and termination.

Education/Experience:

Bachelors Degree in Nursing and one year supervisor experience.

Certificates and Licenses:

Valid NYS Registered Nurse License

Language Ability:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

Mathematical Ability:

Ability to calculate figures and amount such as discounts, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, nonverbal communication, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of word processing software, order processing software, and medical database software.
