Duties
- Assess patients’ respiratory status through detailed evaluations of vital signs, oxygenation levels, and lung function tests.
- Administer respiratory treatments such as aerosol therapies, oxygen therapy, and medication delivery with precision and compassion.
- Manage ventilator support for patients requiring mechanical ventilation, ensuring optimal settings and monitoring for stability.
- Perform airway management procedures including intubation, extubation, and suctioning in emergency and routine situations.
- Monitor patients’ physiological responses during procedures, adjusting therapy plans based on physiology knowledge and patient assessment findings.
- Collaborate with physicians and healthcare teams to develop individualized respiratory care plans aligned with hospital protocols and best practices.
- Document all interventions accurately in medical records while maintaining compliance with hospital policies and medical terminology standards.
- Respond swiftly to emergencies such as airway obstructions or acute respiratory distress in critical care environments like ICU or Level I trauma centers.
- Participate in ongoing education related to pulmonology advances, anatomy knowledge, and critical care techniques to ensure clinical excellence.
Qualifications
- Valid licensure as a Registered Respiratory Therapist from an accredited certifying body.
- Proven experience in hospital medicine, emergency medicine, ICU settings, or Level I/II trauma centers demonstrating proficiency in acute care scenarios.
- Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, pulmonology, and medical terminology essential for accurate patient assessment and treatment planning.
- Hands-on experience with ventilator management, airway management techniques, medication administration, and vital signs monitoring.
- Familiarity with pediatric (pediatrics) and geriatric (geriatrics) patient populations within inpatient or outpatient settings.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure in high-stakes environments such as ORs or critical care units.
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and educating patients about respiratory therapies.
