Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)

This core clinical role coordinates and delivers high-quality, patient-centered respiratory care, performing a variety of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. The RRT is a vital member of the patient care team, responsible for monitoring patients receiving invasive and noninvasive mechanical ventilation, and has the unique opportunity to
elevate skills in the Vascular Access arena
.
Job Responsibilities

Perform and meticulously document comprehensive patient assessments, including monitoring breath sounds, airway patency, and cuff pressure

Conduct specialized diagnostic procedures to accurately evaluate the need for, and the patient's response to, respiratory therapy

Administer a full range of respiratory care therapies, including oxygen delivery, aerosol medication delivery, and chest physiotherapy

Initiate, monitor, and maintain mechanical ventilation, and assist with the safe placement of artificial airways as required

Monitor patient for therapeutic response, promptly notifying the provider and intervening appropriately in the event of an unintended response

Respond immediately to emergent patient situations, ensuring airway integrity and adequate ventilation during resuscitation

Assist with the safe transportation of ventilator-dependent patients within the hospital environment
Requirements
Education
-
Completion of a two-year AMA approved respiratory care program (Associate Degree or equivalent) is required
Experience
-
Experience is flexible; New Graduates are welcome if they have recently passed their boards or are waiting on their official license, with no prior respiratory experience
Certifications/Licenses
-
State Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential and NBRC certification are REQUIRED

Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS or BCLS Instructor) must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS or ACLS Instructor) must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS or PALS Instructor) must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date
-
Neonate Resuscitate (NRP) certification must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date
Skills
-
Demonstrated clinical competency in performing patient assessments and a variety of respiratory care therapies

Proven ability to initiate, monitor, and maintain mechanical ventilation in an acute care setting

Strong professional communication and collaboration skills for responding to emergent patient situations
