Clinical Duties:
- Rapid Assessment & Stabilization: Quickly triage, diagnose, and initiate treatment for critically ill or injured patients of all ages.
- Procedural Skills: Perform life-saving procedures (airway management, central line insertion, ultrasound-guided resuscitations, fracture stabilization).
- Resuscitation & Crisis Management: Lead resuscitation efforts, managing cardiac arrests (ACLS/PALS protocols) and other emergencies.
- Broad Case Management: Handle a wide variety of conditions, acting like a physician, surgeon, and intensivist simultaneously in the acute phase.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate patient records for seamless care transitions.
Leadership & Training:
- Team Leadership: Lead multi-disciplinary teams in high-stakes situations, coordinating with nurses, surgeons, and other specialists.
- Supervision & Teaching: Support and train junior doctors, participating in departmental education and training programs.
- Quality Improvement: Engage in audits, research, and initiatives to improve department operations and patient outcomes.
Career Progression:
- Junior Roles (Registrar/Senior Resident): Manage patients, supervise juniors, gain advanced experience.
- Senior Roles (Consultant/Clinical Lead): Lead the ED team, manage complex cases, handle strategic planning, research, and departmental management.
