Summary: The Rehabilitation Exercise Specialist & Outreach Coordinator supports the continuum of care for patients transitioning from Physical and Occupational Therapy services to independent wellness and fitness activities. This role assists with exercise program implementation, supports rehabilitation clinic operations, and serves as a liaison between OAA Rehabilitation Services and community organizations, schools, and athletic programs. The position promotes patient wellness, injury prevention, community engagement, and awareness of OAA rehabilitation and sports medicine services while providing opportunities for professional growth within healthcare and sports medicine environments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
Rehabilitation & Wellness Support

Assist Physical and Occupational Therapists in implementing wellness and exercise programs for patients transitioning from skilled therapy services.
- Monitor participant engagement, exercise tolerance, and progress while communicating concerns to supervising therapists.
- Educate participants on safe exercise practices, injury prevention, and healthy lifestyle habits.
- Maintain participation records and assist with program outcome tracking.
- Promote long-term fitness, wellness, and functional independence.
Clinical Operations Support

Prepare treatment areas, equipment, and supplies for patient care activities.
- Assist therapists with patient flow and non-clinical operational tasks.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety of treatment and exercise areas.
- Perform routine inspection and maintenance of rehabilitation and fitness equipment.
- Assist with inventory management and supply stocking.
- Support compliance with infection control and safety standards.
Community Outreach & Program Development

Represent OAA Rehabilitation Services at community events, athletic programs, health fairs, and outreach activities.
- Assist with educational programs focused on injury prevention, rehabilitation, and wellness.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with schools, coaches, athletic directors, and community organizations.
- Serve as a resource for athletes, parents, and community members regarding available rehabilitation and sports medicine services.
- Support outreach initiatives designed to increase community awareness and engagement.
Professional Development

Participate in ongoing training opportunities related to rehabilitation, sports medicine, wellness programming, and community outreach.
- May participate in professional development opportunities related to emergency response, athletic event coverage, and EMT career pathway programs based on organizational needs and employee performance.
Qualifications
Required
-
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, Health Sciences, Athletic Training, or related field; or equivalent experience.
- CPR/AED certification or ability to obtain upon hire.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to safely demonstrate and supervise exercise activities.
- Interest in rehabilitation, sports medicine, wellness, and community engagement.
Preferred

Experience in physical therapy, occupational therapy, fitness, athletic training, wellness, or sports performance settings.
- Experience working with youth or scholastic athletics.
- Interest in pursuing advanced healthcare or sports medicine certifications.

Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and move equipment throughout the workday.

Ability to demonstrate exercises and assist with equipment setup.

Ability to attend evening and weekend outreach events as needed.
