POSITION SUMMARY:
This position contributes to the fulfillment of Thayer County Health Services vision and mission by performing designated tasks related to the operation of the rehabilitation department at Thayer County Health Services. The rehabilitation department Technician (Tech), Intern shall be directly responsible to the Director of Rehab. The Rehab Dept Tech upholds patient confidentiality and rights and recognizes patient's immediate needs and acts appropriately to meet their needs. In all interactions, the Rehab Dept Tech projects a caring and professional attitude towards patients, physicians, office physician staff, visitors, co-workers and all personnel. The job description listed below is not all inclusive as other tasks not listed may be required.

SUPERVISION: Reports to Director of Rehabilitation Services
SHIFT: Temporary, Full or Part-time internship, as needed
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred and/or experience in a healthcare-related setting.
  • Computer and keyboarding skills required.
  • High school Diploma or equivalent required.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Prepares therapy modalities and equipment as directed by therapists and assistants.
  • Ensures equipment and treatment areas are sanitized and ready for patient use.
  • Organizes treatment areas and supplies between patients, assisting with patient flow.
  • Assists with laundry and re-stocking in Rehab areas, ensuring efficiency of visits.
  • Under direction and supervision of licensed therapists, may assist with patient monitoring, movement, transportation and exercise.
  • Other miscellaneous tasks as designated by supervising Director of Rehab that may involve assistance with patients and treatment that is in accordance with the Nebraska practice act for therapy aides
  • Maintains excellent phone skills emphasizing customer service excellence, answering phone calls and directing to appropriate staff
  • Greets patients in prompt fashion, inquiring about their needs and assisting when needed.
  • Registers and schedules current and future patients and meetings for Therapy and Cardiac rehab according to departmental guidelines when directed and/or covering for Rehab PAR:
    • Obtains data required to initiate and/or complete patient records including verification of all demographics, employment, retirement, accident and insurance information to ensure accuracy.
    • Ensure insurance precertification, referral, and authorization requirements have been met for commercial, government and worker’s compensation payers.
    • Obtains authorization signatures for consent to treatment, release of information, financial responsibility, and any other necessary forms.
    • Scans insurance cards, referrals, consents and patient identification documents into document imaging software. Collect information for new providers and emails information to Clinical Informaticist.
    • Determines and collects patient co-pays, deductibles and applicable co-insurance amounts required by insurance guidelines and internal policies and procedures.
    • Check eligibility of current Medicaid patients when needed or directed.
    • Send out orders/evaluations/recertification's etc. for signatures
    • Run off charge sheets, review and verify charges from previous day
    • Tally up procedures, inpatients, and outpatients for P.T, O.T, S.T. and enter in logbook
    • Scan records into patient charts
    • Call for op reports, Dr. Orders and other info from other facilities ordering therapy
    • Deliver appointment reminder cards or messages to patients.
  • Follow up on obtaining any required information that is unavailable at the time of registration.

  • Maintains effective working relationships with patients, visitors, therapists, office staff, hospital personnel, and the public.
  • Assures confidentiality of patient and hospital information, maintaining compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Works in software systems required for performing required job duties.
  • Cleans equipment, storage shelves, tables, chairs, periodically, using detergents, soaps, water, and rags as described by Equipment Cleaning Procedure.
  • Changes linens on beds and treatment tables.
  • Perform tasks to maintain department in orderly condition.
  • Obtains equipment, materials, and supplies from storage area and position them appropriately for use.
  • Inventory materials and supplies to determine need for requisitions.
  • Other miscellaneous tasks as designated by supervising Director of Rehab that may involve non patient care activities such as designing pamphlets, creating documents, etc.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
  • Maintains and promotes good health practices.
  • Will conform to TCHS procedures and policies.
  • Will perform all duties as described by the job description and other duties as assigned.
  • Does not discuss patient matters such as medical treatment, diagnosis or history outside of the clinical setting in, keeping in compliance of HIPAA.
  • Understand and comply with the requirements of Thayer County Health Services’ Compliance Program, including, but not limited to, the Code of Conduct, the Compliance Manual. All supporting policies for compliance and compliance plans.
  • Participate in all education and training programs regarding compliance as required by organizational policy and as requested by supervisor.
  • Willingly accepts new responsibilities and cooperates with implementation of change.
  • Dresses in a neat, clean uniform for patient care, maintaining high personal hygiene standards.
  • Demonstrates respect, integrity, compassion, and excellence through a “We Care” philosophy with all patients, visitors, and TCHS staff.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Normal office environment. Routine periods of sitting, walking, and standing required.
