REINFORCEMENT METAL WORKER

Job Summary:

A Reinforcement Metal Worker is responsible for installing and securing steel reinforcement used in concrete construction. Their work ensures that structures like buildings, bridges, and roads have the strength and stability required for long-term durability.

A Reinforcement Metal Worker reads and interprets construction drawings to determine the size, shape, and placement of reinforcing steel. They cut, bend, and assemble steel bars or mesh, then position and secure them in forms before concrete is poured.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Read and interpret blueprints, structural drawings, and specifications
• Measure, cut, and bend reinforcing steel bars using hand tools or machines
• Tie rebar together using wire, clips, or welding equipment
• Position and secure steel bars, mesh, or cages in concrete forms
• Install spacers and supports to ensure proper alignment and coverage
• Inspect reinforcement work to ensure compliance with project specifications
• Collaborate with engineers, supervisors, and other construction workers
• Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean work environment

Required Skills & Experience:

• Knowledge of construction methods and materials
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
• Physical strength and stamina for heavy lifting and repetitive tasks
• Good hand-eye coordination and attention to detail
• Familiarity with tools such as rebar cutters, benders, and tying tools
• Understanding of workplace safety

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
• On-the-job training or apprenticeship in construction or steel fixing
• Relevant certifications may be an advantage, depending on local regulations

Working Conditions:

• Typically works outdoors on construction sites
• Exposure to varying weather conditions
• Requires standing, bending, lifting, and working at heights or in confined spaces
