About Artio
- At Artio, we're a technology company on a mission to redefine risk finance.
- The traditional commercial insurance market is broken.
- It's an inefficient, highly-intermediated value chain where 20-30% of every premium dollar is lost to distribution costs, not spent on transferring risk.
- Artio is a data-driven, tech-enabled alternative risk financing platform.
- We bypass the bloated retail market, structuring solutions—from trusts and fronting carriers to direct reinsurance—that transform our clients' risk management from an inefficient cost center into a strategic financial advantage.
he Role
- We are seeking a Reinsurance Intermediary to serve as the essential bridge between Artio's complex actuarial models, our clients' executive finance teams, and our risk ecosystem including reinsurers, fronting carriers, and retrocessionaires.
- In this role, you will be the driving force behind the implementation of our risk finance strategies for our Americas underwriting portfolios.
- Your primary objective is to implement the fronting, funding, and reinsurance strategies that guarantee the operational viability of our structured solutions.
- As a senior leader, you will oversee the structured insurance portfolio, ensuring profitability and sustainable growth while leading the development of bespoke structured solutions for complex risks.
Your Impact & Responsibilities
- Underwriting & Portfolio Management: Oversee underwriting strategy and workflows for structured opportunities, managing portfolio retention, renewal strategies, and active monitoring of complex property and casualty accounts.
- Alternative Risk & Product Structuring: Partner with our actuarial and structuring teams to model the P&L, balance sheet, and cash-flow impact of proposed alternative risk solutions (e.g., captives, trusts, multi-year reinsurance).
- Risk Assessment & Catastrophic Modeling: Lead comprehensive risk assessments focusing on client exposure, safety features, and industry, while continuously reviewing and improving our catastrophic risk models in light of our overall strategies.
- Captive Formation & Management: Evaluate clients' existing risk financing processes, assess design gaps, and recommend improvements that align with their business strategies and financial reporting requirements.
- Client & Market Development: Build and maintain long-term professional relationships with brokers, carriers, captive managers, and corporate clients to expand the structured casualty portfolio.
- Financial Diligence & Reporting: Own the financial analysis process for clients, preparing and presenting comprehensive feasibility studies, financial reports, and strategic recommendations to senior management and C-suite stakeholders.
- Leadership & Collaboration: Provide mentorship and training to underwriters to ensure technical excellence, partner with internal teams to optimize processes, and assist in management performance reporting and premium forecasting.
What You Bring to the Table
- Deep Underwriting & Modeling Expertise: Minimum 8 years of property & casualty underwriting, with significant exposure to complex/structured solutions, complemented by expert-level proficiency in RMS and AIR modeling tools.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree required (Risk Management, Actuarial Science, Business Administration, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field preferred).
- Licensing & Credentials: State P&C and/or surplus lines licenses are required; CPCU, CIC, or equivalent advanced certifications are highly preferred.
- Captive Accounting Expertise: Strong understanding of captive and reinsurance finance to confidently navigate complex areas such as capital adequacy requirements, premium allocation, trust accounting, and regulatory compliance.
- Exceptional Communication: The unique ability to distill and explain highly complex accounting, underwriting, and financial concepts to C-suite executives and non-financial stakeholders.
Compensation & Benefits
- Total Rewards: At Artio we believe in a "total compensation" philosophy. We consider all components of your rewards package (base pay, short- and long-term incentives, and comprehensive benefits) when determining individual compensation.
- Salary Range: The actual compensation will be determined based on several factors, including the candidate's experience, qualifications, skills, and location. Depending on the final scope of the role, expected salary ranges fall between $180,000 - $250,000 per year.
- Benefits: Artio offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan, flexible paid time off, and opportunities for professional development.
