SUMMARY: The Reliability Engineer is a key role within the Seaboard Energy Reliability Team. This position is responsible for practical application of codes and recognized and generally accepted good engineering practices (RAGAGAEP) in support of maintenance and capital projects, as well as development and execution of inspection, testing, and preventative maintenance plans for rotating equipment.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with the Reliability team and management to develop, implement, and maintain specifications, design best practices and guidelines, and reliability standards for the rotating equipment at all sites.
  • Accountable for the Mechanical Integrity Program for rotating equipment at all sites.
  • Provide technical support in project development, turnaround scope identification, commissioning, start-up and work activities on all equipment upgrades, repairs, and new installations for rotating equipment.
  • Apply engineering theory, practices, and principles to determine root cause failure analysis (RCFA) of equipment failures and performance evaluations of equipment and supporting systems; develop mitigation plans; prioritize and develop action plans for our reliability-centered maintenance system.
  • Analyze equipment trends, historical data, and field data to develop and adjust reliability programs to maximize asset reliability and production availability at the optimum cost of ownership.
  • Respond to site emergencies regarding critical equipment failures when maintenance expertise is not sufficient to address the situation.

REQUIREMENTS: A successful candidate must possess the ability to perform each essential duty to a satisfactory level.   • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering required, Professional Engineer License is preferred.
  • 5-10 years in the chemical, petrochemical or refining industry, with three to five years of rotating equipment experience required.
  • Experience with advanced rotation equipment monitoring and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Working knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) in a continuous operations environment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of applicable American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and American Petroleum Institute (API) Codes required.
  • International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Level I or II in Vibration Analysis certification preferred.
  • Lubrication Level I certification preferred.
  • Certified Maintenance Reliability Professional (CMRP) or Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Lift up to 25 lbs. occasionally. Must be able to move from place to place to all areas of production. Must be able to climb ladders or platforms and enter confined spaces. Must be able to wear all required safety equipment. Must be able to occasionally withstand hot or cold temperatures when working outdoors.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in inclement weather conditions with various hours of the day/night. Is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The duties of this job require a person to stoop, bend, work from a kneeling position, climb ladders and work in high areas up to 130 feet, work in dark areas and work in confined spaces after being trained to do so. The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud. The hours and days of work are established by departmental needs and at the discretion of management. Occasional changes in schedule may be required as special circumstances arise.
