Remote Paralegal Position

About the Firm

Akenhead Law Firm, P.C. is a growing Albuquerque-based law firm representing clients in a variety of civil, healthcare, business, regulatory, guardianship/conservatorship, employment, serious injury, and wrongful death matters. The firm is seeking a motivated paralegal or legal assistant who wants to build practical legal skills, contribute meaningfully to client matters, and grow with a small but expanding law practice.

This is a strong opportunity for a recent graduate of a paralegal certificate program, a developing paralegal, or an experienced legal assistant who wants more substantive responsibility.

Position Overview

The paralegal will work directly with the attorney and firm staff to support litigation, administrative, regulatory, and transactional matters. The ideal candidate is organized, reliable, detail-oriented, professional, and willing to learn.

The position will involve case organization, document management, client communication, records gathering, drafting support, deadline tracking, and other legal-support tasks. The role may grow over time based on the candidate’s skills, initiative, and performance.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include:

  • Organizing and maintaining electronic case files
  • Drafting and formatting correspondence, pleadings, discovery, subpoenas, and other legal documents
  • Assisting with court filings and service of process
  • Tracking deadlines and maintaining case calendars
  • Communicating professionally with clients, opposing counsel, courts, agencies, witnesses, and vendors
  • Gathering, organizing, and summarizing medical, business, financial, and other records
  • Preparing chronologies, document summaries, and case materials
  • Assisting with discovery, deposition preparation, hearings, mediations, and trial preparation
  • Supporting attorney workflow and helping keep client matters moving forward
  • Performing administrative and legal-support tasks as needed in a small-firm environment

Qualifications

Preferred qualifications:

  • Prior law firm, court, healthcare, insurance, or administrative-office experience
  • Familiarity with civil litigation or court filing procedures
  • Experience organizing medical records, business records, or discovery materials
  • Familiarity with New Mexico courts or e-filing systems
  • Interest in healthcare law, civil litigation, business law, probate/guardianship, or serious injury matters

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation will be competitive and based on experience, skill level, schedule, and role structure. The firm is open to discussing full-time, part-time, or flexible arrangements depending on the candidate.
