We are looking for a hard-working individual to join our Care Center as a Removal Technician (PART-TIME, NIGHTTIME SHIFT, SATURDAY, 6:00 P.M. - SUNDAY 6:00 A.M.; SUNDAY, 6:00 P.M. - MONDAY 6:00 A.M.; 24 hours/week) PLEASE READ THE RECRUITMENT BEFORE APPLYING.

General Responsibilities

A removal technician is generally responsible for driving a mortuary transport (van) to a hospital, hospice, home or other place of demise, and receiving a decedent into the care of La Paloma Funeral Services.

  • Retrieve decedent bodies from place of repose and transport to the funeral home;
  • Ability to log essential information in writing and on computer as necessary to identify decedent;
  • Task and detail oriented;
  • Pay particular attention to respect and decorum while performing position, especially with decedents and their families;
  • Understand and have a working knowledge of Nevada laws and codes pertaining to the dignity and respect of decedents and care, transportation and storage of bodies (learned on the job).
  • Communicate clearly with clients, co-workers and management;
  • Physically lift decedent bodies without significant difficulty onto gurney/funeral truck, into mortuary transport vehicle and onto shelves in refrigerated storage;
  • Conduct yourself with a professional demeanor and appearance to third parties and clients, free from distractions. Must be drug-free, clean-cut, presentable and professional at all times;
  • Physical ability to carry out tasks associated with acting as a removal technician, which include: Ability to operate a motor vehicle safely and proficiently; Lift decedent bodies of various weights and sizes on a continual basis from place of repose to gurney and/or mortuary vehicle and onto shelves; Job may require long periods of standing and lifting;
  • Reliable and Responsible. Employer and families expect safe, timely and expeditious performance of job duties.

Education/Experience

Must be able to speak, read and write English sufficient to understand and communicate with hospital/hospice personnel, clients, co-workers, and others in the industry.

Skills/Competencies

  • Must be able to interact well with others.
  • Must be organized and skilled with scheduling.
  • Must be able to competently operate a motor vehicle in the state of Nevada safely and without impairment.
  • Must be able to routinely lift and transfer decedent bodies with dignity and respect without significant difficulty.

Special Considerations (e.g. Travel/Work Hours/etc.)

  • The job is physically demanding, requiring lengthy periods of standing, walking, and heavy lifting in a hot environment.
  • Nevada Driver’s License free of repeated moving violations or major infractions, including but not limited to, DUI/DWI, reckless driving, manslaughter, etc.
  • Ability to drive without impairment because of medication, drugs, or other mind-altering substances.
  • NOTE: Drug testing and 10-year driver history from the DMV is required for this position, as the candidate will be operating a company vehicle, transporting decedents, and interacting with the public during a significantly sensitive time in their lives. A positive test for marijuana will disqualify a candidate for this position as it constitutes an undue burden on the employer and otherwise infringes upon the legitimate business purposes of the Company.
