The Rental Boiler Service Technician is responsible for the installation, startup, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of temporary boiler systems at customer sites. This mobile position combines electrical, mechanical, and combustion expertise to ensure safe and efficient operation of rental equipment. The technician represents Rasmussen Mechanical Services (RMS) in the field and plays a key role in delivering responsive, high-quality service to customers.
- Represent Rasmussen Mechanical Services as the preferred rental and mechanical service provider for customers, employees, and business partners.
- Maintain readiness and reliability of all rental boiler equipment, ensuring it meets safety and performance standards before deployment.
- Respond to customer service requests and emergencies in a timely, professional manner.
- Ensure compliance with all RMS safety procedures, OSHA regulations, and applicable codes.
- Maintain accurate documentation of service activities, equipment condition, and time reporting.
- Support RMS departments in coordinating mobilization, demobilization, and logistics for rental equipment.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and teamwork across departments.
- Rental Unit Preparation and Deployment: Prepare mobile boiler units for rental, conduct system tests, verify safety devices, and confirm readiness for field use.
- On-Site Installation and Startup: Travel to customer locations to install and commission rental boiler systems and associated equipment.
- Maintenance and Inspection: Perform routine and preventative maintenance on boilers, burners, controls, piping, and valves to ensure optimal performance.
- Troubleshooting and Repair: Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and combustion-related issues using tools such as multimeters, pressure gauges, and combustion analyzers.
- Combustion Analysis and Tuning: Adjust air-to-fuel ratios and tune burners for peak efficiency, emissions compliance, and reliable operation.
- Record Keeping: Complete service reports, parts usage logs, and maintenance documentation accurately and promptly.
- Customer Communication: Interact with customers to explain findings, provide service recommendations, and ensure satisfaction with RMS work.
- Safety and Compliance: Follow RMS and industry safety standards when working in environments that may involve high heat, confined spaces, and elevated areas.
- Inventory and Vehicle Maintenance: Maintain tools, testing equipment, and parts inventory in company-provided vehicles in a clean and organized manner.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical school or apprenticeship in HVAC, mechanical, or industrial technology preferred.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Boiler operator or burner technician certifications preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in industrial boiler service, mechanical maintenance, or related field preferred.
- Hands-on experience with burner systems, controls, and electrical troubleshooting required.
- Familiarity with boiler codes, combustion theory, and safety practices.
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting abilities.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
- Proficient in the use of diagnostic tools and testing instruments.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for customer and team interaction.

- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, stoop, and work in confined or elevated spaces.
