Job Description
The Research Assistant (RA) will support multiple research and innovation projects in family medicine, primary care, and medical education, with a focus on wellbeing, mental health, parenting, health promotion, disease prevention, and learning environment research. The role involves coordination and execution of qualitative and quantitative studies, including curriculum evaluation, communication and clinical skills teaching research, digital and simulation-based education projects, and faculty/learner wellbeing initiatives. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong research methodology skills, technological competence, the ability to multitask across several projects, and excellent time management and task execution abilities. Key Responsibilities 1. Research Design & Implementation • Assist in the design, planning, and execution of primary care and medical education research projects. • Support development of study protocols, ethics submissions, and grant applications. • Conduct literature reviews using databases (PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science). • Develop data collection tools (surveys, interview/focus group guides, OSCE/assessment tools, wellbeing and parenting measures). • Manage data collection (online surveys, REDCap, LMS analytics, clinic-based recruitment, community-based data). 2. Quantitative Research • Perform statistical analysis using SPSS, Stata, R, or similar software. • Assist in survey validation (CVI, reliability testing, factor analysis). • Conduct descriptive and inferential statistics for cross-sectional and longitudinal studies. • Prepare tables, figures, and reports suitable for publication and presentations. 3. Qualitative Research • Conduct interviews and focus groups with students, residents, clinicians, and/or patients. • Perform transcription, coding, and thematic analysis (NVivo, Dedoose, Atlas.ti). • Develop coding frameworks and thematic maps aligned with study aims. • Contribute to mixed-methods integration and interpretation of findings. 4. Educational Innovation & Digital Projects • Support implementation and evaluation of innovative educational interventions (e.g., simulation, digital/online learning, wellbeing and communication workshops; VR/AR tools where applicable). • Coordinate with IT teams, skills/simulation labs, and clinical teaching sites. • Collect usability, engagement, and learning outcome data related to educational tools. • Assist in technology testing, troubleshooting, and user training for learners and faculty. • Analyze learning analytics data from LMS and other educational platforms. 5. Project Management & Task Execution • Track project timelines, milestones, and deliverables across multiple concurrent studies. • Maintain organized progress reports and documentation for IRB, funders, and the PI. • Coordinate meetings, minutes, and follow-up actions with project teams. • Effectively multitask across several projects and responsibilities while maintaining high quality and accuracy. • Ensure deadlines are met with minimal supervision and high reliability. • Maintain organized and secure digital documentation systems. 6. Manuscript & Dissemination Support • Draft manuscript sections (methods, results, appendices). • Prepare conference abstracts, posters, and presentations. • Manage reference software (EndNote, Zotero, or similar). • Assist in journal submissions, responses to reviewers, and report writing to funders. Working Conditions • Academic and research-focused environment within a family medicine/medical education setting. • Collaboration with faculty, clinicians, IT teams, and simulation/skills centre staff. • May require flexible hours during intensive data collection or teaching/evaluation periods.
Minimum Qualification
- MD, MBBS, MSc, MPH, or equivalent degree in Medicine, Health Sciences, Education, Psychology, Public Health, or related scientific field. • Demonstrated experience in both qualitative and quantitative research. • Experience in medical education, primary care/family medicine, mental health, or healthcare research.
Preferred Qualification
- Prior publication in peer-reviewed journals. • Experience in grant-funded research projects. • Experience in digital health, AI, immersive learning, wellbeing or mental health interventions, or learning environment research. • Background in curriculum evaluation, assessment, or faculty development in health professions education.
Expected Skills
Research Skills • Strong understanding of research methodology and ethics. • Experience with survey development, validation, and outcome measures in health or education. • Mixed-methods research experience preferred. Technical & Digital Competence • Proficiency in statistical software (Stata, SPSS, R, or equivalent). • Experience with qualitative analysis software (e.g., NVivo, Atlas.ti, Dedoose). • Familiarity with VR/AR, simulation, or other educational technologies is an advantage but not mandatory. • Experience with REDCap, LMS platforms (e.g., Moodle, Blackboard), or digital dashboards is an advantage. Organizational & Professional Skills • Excellent time management, prioritization, and independent task execution. • Demonstrated ability to multitask and switch efficiently between different research and administrative tasks. • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work to deadlines. • High level of accountability, accuracy, and attention to detail. • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English (Arabic preferred). • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, clinicians, students, and administrative staff.
Salary Range
7000 - 7500 based on Qualification and Experience
