Job Description
The Research Assistant will support a range of research and innovation projects within the Department of Medical Education. The role includes coordinating and implementing qualitative and quantitative studies across areas such as virtual reality applications in medical education, curriculum innovation, learning environment research, and digital transformation initiatives. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong research methodology skills, technological competence, and excellent time management, with the ability to execute tasks efficiently and independently. Key Responsibilities 1. Research Design and Implementation Assist in the design, planning, and implementation of medical education research projects. Support the development of study protocols, ethics applications, and grant submissions. Conduct literature reviews using databases such as PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science. Develop data collection tools, including surveys, interview guides, and VR usability instruments. Manage data collection processes, including online surveys, REDCap databases, learning management system analytics, and VR data logs. 2. Quantitative Research Perform statistical analyses using SPSS, R, Stata, or equivalent software. Support survey validation processes, including content validity index assessment, reliability testing, and factor analysis. Conduct descriptive and inferential statistical analyses. Prepare tables, figures, and reports suitable for publication and presentation. 3. Qualitative Research Conduct interviews and focus groups. Perform transcription, coding, and thematic analysis using software such as NVivo, Dedoose, or Atlas.ti. Develop coding frameworks and thematic maps. Contribute to mixed-methods data integration and interpretation. 4. Educational Technology and VR Projects Support the implementation and evaluation of VR-based learning interventions. Coordinate with IT teams and simulation centre staff. Collect usability, engagement, and learning outcome data related to VR tools. Assist with technology testing, troubleshooting, and user training. Analyze learning analytics and related digital data. 5. Project Management and Task Execution Track project timelines, deliverables, and milestones. Maintain progress reports across multiple concurrent projects. Coordinate meetings, documentation, and follow-up actions. Ensure deadlines are met with minimal supervision. Maintain organized digital filing and documentation systems. 6. Manuscript and Dissemination Support Draft sections of manuscripts, particularly methods and results. Prepare conference abstracts, posters, and presentations. Manage references using software such as EndNote or Zotero. Assist with journal submissions, reviewer responses, and manuscript revisions.
Minimum Qualification
MD, MBBS, MSc, MPH, or equivalent degree in Medicine, Health Sciences, Education, or a related scientific field. Demonstrated experience in both qualitative and quantitative research. Experience in medical education research or healthcare-related research.
Preferred Qualification
Prior publication in peer-reviewed journals. Experience working on grant-funded research projects. Experience in digital health, artificial intelligence, or immersive learning technologies. Background in curriculum evaluation or learning environment research.
Expected Skills
Research Skills Strong understanding of research methodology. Experience in survey development, validation, and instrument design. Experience in mixed-methods research is preferred. Technical and Digital Competence Proficiency in statistical software such as Stata, SPSS, R, or equivalent. Experience with qualitative data analysis software. Familiarity with VR or AR technologies and educational simulation is desirable. Experience with REDCap, learning management systems, or digital dashboards is an advantage. Organizational and Professional Skills Excellent time management and prioritization skills. Strong task execution with minimal supervision. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. High level of accountability and attention to detail. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English; Arabic is preferred.
