Job Description

We are seeking a Colloidal Chemist to advance the understanding and application of surface chemistry and colloidal behaviour in water treatment and sludge management. The candidate will study aggregation, adsorption, and particle-surface interactions, focusing on improving coagulation, flocculation, and solid-liquid separation processes.

The role involves both theoretical and applied research - developing predictive models for particle stability and designing novel flocculants or surface-active agents. The candidate will also support cross-functional teams by providing scientific insights into rheology, emulsion stability, and micro-particle behaviour.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research colloidal stability and aggregation mechanisms in various water matrices.

  • Develop a dedicated colloidal chemistry laboratory capable of simulating surface characteristics, particle interactions, and impurity separation mechanisms relevant to water and wastewater systems.

  • Develop surface-active compounds and flocculants to improve clarification efficiency.

  • Characterize particles and interfaces using DLS, zeta potential, and rheological analysis.

  • Collaborate with process and mechanical teams for pilot-scale validation.

  • Publish results in peer-reviewed journals and file patents where applicable.

  • Support troubleshooting of plant-scale coagulation and sludge dewatering issues.

Qualifications

  • Education: PhD in Colloidal or Surface Chemistry.

  • Experience: ~10 years total, with good exposure to water/wastewater systems.

  • Expertise in colloidal interactions, surfactant chemistry, and interfacial phenomena.

  • Publications: At least 5 high-quality papers or equivalent conference proceedings; patents preferred.

  • Experience with particle characterization instruments (DLS, TEM, FTIR).
