The Stowers Institute for Medical Research has an opening for a full-time Research Technician in our Rodents Department.
Responsibilities Include:

Providing routine care and husbandry of rodents including feeding, water, cleaning, and health monitoring.

Review, comprehend, and comply with all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and quality assurance standards. Basic ability to perform the SOP review process following established procedures. Adhere to established protocols.

Developing and modifying standard operating procedures and practices which promote high-quality, cost-effective operation of the facility.

Interacting with faculty, staff, researchers, and other teams to provide high quality, responsive animal care services.

Monitoring supply and equipment inventory to sustain day-to-day operations.

Maintaining accurate records including room logs, health reports, animal census, and other records as required.

Operate equipment and use supplies according to safety guidelines; perform general housekeeping and adhere to safety procedures.

Perform plug checks, mating, weaning, tagging, tailing, injections and other technical procedures as required.
- Perform/assist with advanced technical procedures as needed (e.g. intravenous injection, vaginal lavage, ultrasound)

Preparing for all regulatory inspections.
Prior experience with rodents and a basic understanding of Animal Biosafety Level 2 procedures is preferred. Weekend and Holiday work will be required.
Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in any of the life sciences (e.g., animal science, biology, microbiology).

Basic computer skills and a working knowledge of computer programs including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.

Self-motivation, excellent communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work closely with other team members.
