Research/Book-Project/Writing/Editing Assistant

This is a three-volume book project in Sausalito, creating a one-of-a-kind work. This work intends to provide a much needed inquiry into one of the biggest conflicts of modern history which has collectively left us with a turbulent wake and many unresolved questions. Addressing the notion of healing between historic perpetrators and historic victims of genocide - and their respective heirs - using the example of Nazism and the Holocaust, the work looks at the 1933 to 1945 period by carefully documenting the trajectory of two individuals who held unique positions vis-a-vis the top leadership of the regime; it furthermore carefully examines the 1945 to today period by looking at how in particular the German people have dealt with their inheritance; and it also addresses the big open questions this historical gordian knot has left us all with. The project operates on the understanding that functional Wiedergutmachung / T'shuvah have yet to transpire. It aims to offer an improved understanding, improved approaches, and improved notions of resolution of seemingly irreconcilable worlds. As such, the work aims to bridge a complex and destructive past with a desirable and constructive future without turning a blind eye to anything.

You’ll be working with the author, who's out of town until July. The position will start in middle of July 2026. Hours likely 10ish to 2ish, days TBD. Compensation depends on what you bring to the table. Position will entail complex, tedious, challenging, creative, menial & exciting aspects, and will be in-person at least in the beginning.

Must-Haves:

- Strong interest in WW II, Nazism, Holocaust & healing on the heels of genocide

- Fluency in both German and English

- Ability to think dispassionately about deeply emotional dynamics

- Excellent and reliable communicator, verbally + written

- Competent research & writing skills

- Proficiency with Word, pdf and image management/manipulation

- Superior organizational skills, from big picture to small details

- Ability to handle large amount of complexity without getting lost (!)

- Complete reliability

- Non-negotiable confidentiality including NDA

Nice-To-Haves:

- AI experience for searching in large documents (not for content creation)

- Deep knowledge of WW II, Nazism, Holocaust, Reparations, other genocides

- English editorial skills, capacity to convey complexity with linguistic elegance

- Proficiency with hardware and software, ideally PC-based

- Deep thinker, ability to question any and all assumptions and understandings

- Creative problem solver

- Calmness under pressure & a quiet disposition
