The Fundraising Researcher and Grant Writer will play a vital role in advancing Combined Arms’ fundraising efforts by conducting thorough prospect research (50%) and developing high-quality grant proposals (50%). This position requires a strategic thinker with strong research, writing, and organizational skills, and a passion for supporting veterans. The role will work closely with the Development team to secure funding, build relationships, to conduct deep and broad research on high-net worth individuals (HNW), corporations, and philanthropic foundations in order to grow and sustain our programs.
Key Responsibilities
Fundraising Research (50%):
- Prospect Research: Identify and evaluate potential donors, including individuals, corporations, and foundations, as well as government and private grant opportunities aligned with the organization’s mission.
- Donor Profiling: Create detailed profiles on prospective donors and organizations, analyzing financial capacity, giving history, and connections to veteran-related causes.
- Funding Trends Analysis: Monitor philanthropy trends, particularly in veteran-focused funding, to identify new opportunities and inform fundraising strategies.
- Data Management: Maintain and update donor and prospect information in the organization’s CRM system (e.g., Salesforce, Donor Perfect) to ensure accurate and accessible records.
- Research Reporting: Prepare concise reports summarizing research findings to support donor cultivation and grant application strategies.
Grant Writing (50%):
- Grant Proposal Development: Write compelling grant proposals and letters of inquiry tailored to foundation, corporate, and government funders, clearly articulating the nonprofit’s mission and program impact.
- Grant Research Support: Identify and prioritize grant opportunities, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and eligibility requirements.
- Reporting and Compliance: Prepare grant reports to meet funder requirements, including program outcomes, budgets, and impact metrics.
- Collaboration: Work with program staff to gather data and stories that strengthen grant narratives and demonstrate the impact of veteran-focused initiatives.
- Proposal Tracking: Manage grant application timelines, submissions, and follow-up to ensure deadlines are met and relationships with funders are maintained.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, communications, English, research, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 1-2 years of experience in fundraising, grant writing, or prospect research (internships or volunteer experience may be considered).
- Strong research skills, with proficiency in using online databases and tools like Foundation Directory Online, LexisNexis, Chat GPT, or similar platforms.
- Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to craft persuasive, clear, and concise grant proposals and reports.
- Familiarity with CRM software and data management practices. (i.e. SalesForce, DonorPerfect, FundraiseUp, Evergreen, etc.)
- Passion for supporting active duty, veterans and their families.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Proficiency in Google Workspace, Canva, Microsoft Office Suite, and research tools.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
Preferred Experience and Qualifications
- Experience in nonprofit fundraising, grant writing, or research for veteran-related causes.
- Knowledge of philanthropy trends and funding sources for veteran-focused programs.
- Comfort with analyzing budgets or program data for grant applications.
- Attention to detail, desire for self-improvement, and willingness to improve fundraising enterprise & processes.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $70,000 - $85,000 (commensurate with experience and employment type)
