Resident Care Aide

Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Resident Care Aide to join our team in providing exceptional support and care to residents in a long-term care or assisted living environment. As a vital member of our caregiving team, you will assist residents with their daily needs, promote their well-being, and foster a warm, respectful atmosphere. Your role is essential in ensuring residents feel safe, comfortable, and valued every day. Responsibilities

  • Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility support using equipment such as Hoyer lifts when necessary.
  • Monitor and record vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration to ensure residents' health status is maintained.
  • Administer medications following prescribed protocols and document all medication activities accurately within electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
  • Provide specialized care for residents with dementia or Alzheimer's disease, employing memory care techniques and behavior management strategies to promote safety and comfort.
  • Support residents during meal preparation, feeding assistance, and ensure proper nutrition is maintained according to dietary plans.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing light housekeeping duties, including cleaning resident areas and common spaces.
  • Collaborate with nursing staff, social workers, families, and other healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive resident-centered care.
  • Engage residents in social activities and provide emotional support to foster social interaction and mental well-being.
  • Follow all safety protocols including first aid procedures and emergency response plans to ensure resident safety at all times.
  • Assist with transportation or driving duties as needed for appointments or outings in compliance with licensing requirements.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience working in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or home & community care environments is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of dementia care, Alzheimer's care, memory care techniques, and behavior management strategies.
  • Certification or training in first aid is required; additional certifications such as medication administration or EMR system training are advantageous.
  • Experience assisting with ADLs and providing personal care within a group home or retirement home setting is desirable.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals with disabilities or developmental challenges while demonstrating patience and empathy.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members, residents, families, and healthcare providers.
  • Valid driver’s license may be required for transportation duties; clean driving record preferred.
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift residents safely using appropriate equipment like Hoyer lifts, and perform routine cleaning tasks.
