Resident Coordinator

Frederick Samuels Apartments | VPH Management (Genesis Companies)

NYCHA PACT Program | Central Harlem

About the Role

We're looking for a bilingual (Spanish/English) Resident Coordinator who can help us build and maintain our digital presence while coordinating community programming. This is a unique hybrid role: part communications/social media, part event coordination, part construction-era resident support.

You'll be the voice of Frederick Samuels online—launching and managing our Instagram, keeping our resident website updated with meeting documents and resources, and creating content that keeps residents informed and connected. You'll also work alongside another coordinator to plan and execute community events, and you'll play a key role in keeping residents informed and supported during our ongoing rehabilitation work.

About Frederick Samuels Apartments

Frederick Samuels is one of NYCHA's PACT (Permanent Affordability Commitment Together) developments—655 units in Central Harlem undergoing comprehensive renovation with enhanced property management and expanded social services. The property is in active construction, and coordination between our resident engagement team and construction partners is a major pillar of our work. We need someone who can keep residents informed, respond to construction-related concerns, and help maintain trust during a period of significant change.

What You'll Do

  • Social Media (Instagram): Launch and manage our building's Instagram account from scratch. Create engaging content—event announcements, resident spotlights, construction updates, community wins. Build a following among residents and keep them informed in a format they actually use.
  • Resident Website: Maintain our resident website. Upload meeting documents, newsletters, event flyers, construction schedules, and service resources. Keep content current and accessible.
  • Construction Communications: Serve as a liaison between residents and the construction team. Communicate upcoming work, schedule changes, and access issues. Help residents understand what to expect and where to go with concerns. Coordinate with construction partners to ensure residents receive timely, accurate information.
  • Event Coordination: Plan and execute community events alongside another coordinator—holiday parties, wellness programs, youth activities, resident meetings. Handle logistics, promotion, setup, and follow-up.
  • Resident Communications: Create flyers, newsletters, and announcements in English and Spanish. Ensure all communications meet NYCHA's PACT requirements for quality, branding, and translation.
  • Community Engagement: Build relationships with residents. Be a friendly, visible presence at events and in common areas. Help connect residents to services and resources.
  • Documentation: Photograph events for reporting and social media. Maintain records of community programming for quarterly NYCHA reports.

Who You Are

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English (required) – All resident communications must be accessible in both languages.
  • Social media savvy: You know how to create content that people actually engage with. You understand Instagram's algorithm, can shoot and edit photos/videos on your phone, and can build a community online. Bonus if you have experience managing a brand or organizational account.
  • Tech comfortable: You can update a website (we'll train you on the specific platform), create polished flyers in Canva or similar tools, and pick up new software quickly.
  • Comfortable in a construction environment: You can communicate calmly with residents who are frustrated about disruptions, coordinate across teams, and adapt when schedules change. You're solution-oriented and don't get rattled.
  • Event planning experience: You've coordinated programs, managed logistics, and know how to make an event run smoothly. Community events, campus activities, nonprofit programming—any relevant experience counts.
  • Excellent communicator: Your writing is clear, warm, and error-free. You can adapt your tone for different audiences—formal for meeting minutes, friendly for Instagram, professional for newsletters.
  • Organized and proactive: You manage your own time, meet deadlines, and don't wait to be told what to do. You see what needs to happen and make it happen.
  • People person: You genuinely enjoy working with diverse communities. You're approachable, patient, and able to build trust with residents of all ages and backgrounds.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in affordable housing, NYCHA, or property management
  • Graphic design skills (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite)
  • Photography/videography skills
  • Comfortable using AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, etc.) to draft content, brainstorm ideas, or streamline workflows
  • Familiarity with RealPage or other property management software

Details

  • Salary: $60,000
  • Location: On-site at Frederick Samuels Apartments, Central Harlem
  • Reports to: Director of Resident Services and Community Engagement
  • Software: Instagram, Canva (or similar), website CMS, Microsoft Office. RealPage training provided.
