About the Pope Francis Center
The Pope Francis Center exists to provide meals, supportive services, and housing assistance to Detroit community members in need, especially those experiencing homelessness. On an average day, we welcome over 200 guests and provide them with nutritious meals, showers, laundry, and access to doctors, dentists, lawyers, and housing providers through our free clinics. We have been serving Detroit’s most vulnerable citizens for over 30 years, and we envision a Detroit without homelessness—where every person has the resources for sustained stability.
Position Overview
The Resident Coordinator (RC) plays a vital role in ensuring the safety, stability, and engagement of residents living at the Bridge Housing Campus (BHC). Working in close coordination with the Director of Security, RCs help sustain the day-to-day structure and culture of the residential floors through presence, consistency, and clear communication.
RCs support resident engagement, assist with transportation and testing, complete room inspections, and document daily activities using digital tools. They work closely with the Care Plan team and Security to ensure a trauma-informed, recovery-oriented environment that fosters dignity, accountability, and community.
Key Responsibilities
1. Resident Engagement & Safety
● Maintain consistent visibility in residential areas to foster trust, safety, and accountability.
● Conduct non-invasive searches of residents upon re-entry or as directed, following trauma-informed procedures and maintaining resident dignity.
● Perform daily walkthroughs and weekly room inspections to ensure cleanliness, safety, and compliance with program expectations.
● Record findings digitally, escalate safety or behavioral concerns to the Supervisor or Director of Security, and follow policy for incident documentation.
● De-escalate conflict calmly and respond appropriately to crises.
2. Collaboration with Security & Care Teams
● Partner with Security staff to ensure safe access control, movement tracking, and incident communication.
● Work with Care Plan and Clinical staff to coordinate resident attendance, appointments, and behavioral observations.
● Support safety and re-entry protocols in alignment with program policy.
3. Appointment & Transportation Support
● Coordinate and/or transport residents to approved appointments (medical, recovery, legal, or employment).
● Maintain accurate appointment logs and confirm attendance with the Care Plan Coordinator (CPC).
● Ensure consistency and communication between departments regarding resident movement and return times.
4. Substance Testing & Documentation
● Conduct or assist with scheduled and random substance testing under supervision, following confidentiality and dignity standards.
● Record results accurately and escalate refusals or positive tests to the Supervisor.
5. Room, Board, and Supply Support
● Support distribution and restocking of linens, hygiene products, and cleaning supplies.
● Assist with maintaining organized storage areas and notify Supervisor of inventory needs.
● Report maintenance or facility concerns promptly to Facilities staff.
6. Documentation & Technology
● Complete end-of-shift logs, incident reports, and checklists using Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and tablet-based systems.
● Maintain accuracy and confidentiality in all documentation.
● Communicate clearly with team members using shared digital tools.
Qualifications:
● High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in human services, psychology, or criminal justice preferred.
● 1–2 years of experience in residential, housing, or human services settings.
● Technology-savvy — proficient in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive), Microsoft Office, and mobile/tablet-based reporting systems.
● Excellent communication and de-escalation skills; calm under pressure.
● Valid Michigan driver’s license and clean driving record required.
● Ability and willingness to drive residents to approved appointments using an agency vehicle.
● Familiarity with trauma-informed, harm reduction, and recovery-oriented care preferred.
Physical Requirements:
● Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and lift up to 40 pounds.
● Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as assigned.
● Must be able to safely operate a motor vehicle.

Pay: $20.00 - $24.00 per hour
