Resident Engineer

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

We are looking for a highly experienced and proactive Resident Engineer with a strong background in construction supervision and project management for our projects in Abu Dhabi. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of leading multidisciplinary teams, resolving on-site issues, managing project budgets, and maintaining positive client relationships. Strong knowledge of FIDIC contracts, local regulations in Abu Dhabi, and hands-on experience in infrastructure or building projects is essential. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Planning and Control:

  • Review and study contract documents at project initiation; prepare a discrepancies report and recommend design modifications.
  • Identify and recruit the optimal project team—aligned with technical needs and budget—in coordination with the Head of Construction and section managers.
  • Implement robust project management and control procedures; produce regular, contract compliant progress reports for the client.
  • Monitor on site construction progress against the program; proactively identify delays and implement mitigation measures.


Financial Management

  • Issue invoices timely and in accordance with contract conditions, ensuring all client requirements are met to avoid delays or rejections.
  • Follow up persistently to secure ontime payment releases from the client; prepare and submit variation claims or additional cost requests promptly.
  • Oversee preparation of initial and final project settlements, ensuring completeness and accuracy.


Quality, Safety & Compliance

  • Conduct final review of all submittals, inspections, approvals, comments and snags before issuing to the contractor; verify strict adherence to contract documents to prevent claims.
  • Ensure implementation of onsite safety and quality control procedures in line with company policy and client standards.
  • Manage NOCs, site instructions and mandatory documentation via ALSUWEIDI’s portal, updating as directed by management.


Stakeholder Management

  • Act as the primary point of contact between the client, contractor and supervision team; cultivate positive working relationships under contractual guidelines.
  • Liaise with internal departments (e.g., Design, HSE, Finance) to coordinate resources and resolve technical or administrative issues.
  • Protect the Bureau’s rights; prevent actions or decisions that could lead to claims against Al Suweidi.


Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor and evaluate the construction supervision team, ensuring they meet milestones, adhere to contract requirements and have access to necessary tools and training.
  • Introduce and adapt modern construction management techniques and digital systems for efficient project administration.
  • Enforce full compliance of the supervision team with Al Suweidi’s policies, rules and procedures.


Project Close Out

  • Manage the handing over process, prepare closeout documents and the taking over certificate along with a comprehensive snag list.
  • Control instructed or proposed design changes; grant variations where applicable and manage associated risks.
  • Compile and present a final risk management report, documenting lessons learned and recommendations for future projects.


REQUIREMENTS

Experience Requirements

  • Not less than 15 years of relevant experience in construction supervision field.
  • Not less than 7 years of experience in a similar position in the consultancy field.


Skill Set Requirements

  • Excellent English and Arabic verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of both theoretical and practical aspects of project management.
  • Working knowledge of web and application development.
  • Working knowledge and experience with Project Management platforms/software.
  • Project Cost Controlling, Project Cost Allocation, Lean Management, Budget Allocation.
  • Well versed with Local & Federal Authority Rules and Regulations and Civil Engineering Codes as well.
  • Excellent command of Electronic Document Management System such as ACONEX or equivalent.


Pre-Qualifications Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Civil/Architecture.
  • PMP, IPMA Certification.
