Resident Medical Officer (RMO)

The Resident Medical Officer (RMO) – Emergency Department is responsible for providing immediate and effective medical care to patients presenting with acute illnesses, trauma, and medical emergencies. The role involves rapid assessment, triage, diagnosis, stabilization, and initiation of treatment in emergency situations. The RMO will manage emergency and trauma cases under established clinical protocols, assist consultants and senior doctors during procedures, monitor patient progress, order and interpret investigations, maintain accurate medical documentation, and coordinate with nursing staff and other departments to ensure timely and quality patient care. The position requires the ability to work under pressure, respond promptly to critical situations, and deliver patient-centered care while adhering to hospital policies and medico-legal guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform rapid assessment, triage, diagnosis, and initial management of emergency and trauma patients
• Provide immediate life-saving interventions and stabilization
• Manage medical and surgical emergencies under consultant guidance
• Monitor patient vitals and clinical progress continuously
• Order, interpret, and act upon laboratory and radiological investigations
• Initiate emergency medications, IV fluids, and procedures as per protocol
• Assist in procedures such as resuscitation, intubation, suturing, wound care, and splinting
• Coordinate with nursing staff and other departments for effective patient care
• Ensure proper patient handover during shift changes
• Maintain accurate, timely, and complete medical records
• Counsel patients and attendants regarding diagnosis, treatment, and further management
• Follow hospital policies, emergency protocols, and medico-legal requirements
• Participate in emergency drills, audits, and quality improvement activities
