The role of a Resident Medical Officer (RMO) in handling emergencies involves a range of responsibilities that are critical for patient care. Here are the key responsibilities of an RMO in emergency situations:
- Patient Assessment: Perform physical exams, diagnose conditions, and initiate immediate treatment for all new emergency admissions.
- Emergency Management: Respond to casualty calls, provide life support, manage critical situations, and stabilize patients before consultant involvement.
- Treatment & Monitoring: Implement treatment plans, monitor vital signs and patient progress, order investigations (labs, imaging), and review results.
- Coordination: Communicate effectively with nurses, specialists, and other staff; assist senior doctors during rounds and complex cases.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed, accurate, and up-to-date patient records, ensuring clear care plans and preparing comprehensive discharge summaries.
