Resident Medical Officer (RMO)

Shalom Institute of Mental Health and Research is a leading psychiatric and de-addiction center dedicated to research, rehabilitation, and innovation in mental health care. The institute’s multidisciplinary team includes five psychiatrists, one physician, a clinical psychologist, mental health professionals, nurses, and a skilled support staff. The hospital also offers specialized treatment for schizophrenia, bipolar affective disorder, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder,post-traumatic stress disorder, de-addiction treatment for people with alcohol addiction, drug addiction, depression, children with various behavioural problems and institutionalized care for geriaric psychiatric patients. Job Summary

We are looking for a committed and clinically sound MBBS graduate to join SIMHAR as a Resident Medical Officer. The RMO will be responsible for the day-to-day medical management of inpatients, handling admissions, and acting as the first line of response during emergencies. This role requires a doctor who can manage the physical health comorbidities of psychiatric patients while ensuring the smooth execution of psychiatric treatment plans prescribed by consultants.

Key Responsibilities

1. Patient Admissions & Initial Assessment

• Conduct thorough physical examinations and general medical workups for all new admissions to rule out organic causes of mental illness.
• Take detailed case histories (medical and psychiatric) from patients and relatives upon arrival.
• Ensure all admission documentation and consent forms are completed accurately in compliance with the Mental Healthcare Act, 2017.

2. Ward Management & Daily Care

• conduct daily rounds to monitor patient vitals, sleep patterns, and general hygiene.
• Physical Health Management: Manage co-morbid conditions (Diabetes, Hypertension, infections, etc.) in psychiatric inpatients.
• Administer and monitor medications as prescribed by Consultant Psychiatrists; closely observe patients for potential side effects (e.g., EPS, sedation).
• Perform medical procedures such as Ryle’s tube insertion, catheterization, IV cannulation, and wound dressing as needed.

3. Emergency Response & Crisis Management

• Act as the first responder for medical emergencies (seizures, cardiac issues) and psychiatric emergencies (suicide attempts, acute aggression/violence).
• Manage acute agitation using de-escalation techniques and rapid tranquilization protocols as per hospital policy.
• Coordinate with external super-specialty hospitals if a patient requires urgent transfer for non-psychiatric critical care.

4. Documentation & Communication

• Maintain meticulous case notes, treatment sheets, and drug charts.
• Prepare detailed Discharge Summaries and referral letters under the guidance of the treating Psychiatrist.
• Act as a liaison between the nursing staff, patients’ families, and Consultant Psychiatrists, ensuring clear communication regarding patient progress.

5. Procedural Assistance (Optional/If applicable)

• Assist the Psychiatrist and Anesthetist during ECT (Electroconvulsive Therapy) procedures, ensuring pre-procedure clearance and post-procedure recovery monitoring.
