Residential Advisor - Upward Bound
$650 per week

Position Duties

Summary

This is a 6-week residential position at Coalinga College residence halls. The Residential Advisor reports to the Director of Special Projects and serves as the live-in staff member for the summer residential component. The RAs provide 24-hour supervision to Upward Bound (UB) participants in the dormitories and are expected to provide occasional tutoring and peer counseling and serve as role models for program participants.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participates in assigned recreational and evening cultural activities.
  • Submit weekly reports to the Director.
  • Supervise residence hall activities as assigned by the Director.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of residence hall activities.
  • Reside in the residence hall, serve as an on-call staff member, and respond to emergencies.
  • Enforce UB and Coalinga College policies and procedures.
  • Attend staff meetings.
  • Coordinate participant discipline activities and complete required reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualification

Knowledge and Skills
Minimum 21 years of age
Must reside on campus during the summer component.
Must have demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of educationally and economically disadvantaged students.

Abilities
Must have demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of educationally and economically disadvantaged students.

Physical Abilities
Requires sufficient ambulatory ability to move to various campus and off-site locations. Requires hand and eye coordination to operate a personal computer keyboard. Requires visual acuity to recognize words and numbers. Requires auditory ability to carry on conversations and to project voice to small groups.

Education and Experience
High School Diploma or the equivalent.
Six (6) months of experience working with school-aged children in an educational, community, and/or recreational setting.

Licenses and Certificates
Must have a valid driver's license.
Must be able to pass background check and pre-employment screenings.
