Residential Aide - Part Time

We are looking for individuals that will help us support and make a difference in adults with developmental disabilities.

Valley Village is a non-profit organization that serves 400 men and women with developmental challenges through residential and day programs. All of our programs are located in the San Fernando Valley and operated by a staff of over 300 people that love what they do. We are currently looking for Residential Aides for our locations in the San Fernando Valley!

JOB SUMMARY:

This is a non-exempt position. The Residential Aide, under the supervision of Careprovider(s), is responsible for shared responsibilities for implementation of various programs including resident care, domestic duties, transportation and chart keeping for residents with developmental disabilities in a Group Home Setting.

Job Duties:

  • Demonstrates respect for clients and their rights. Protects the clients’ rights to privacy and personal property. Holds client’s personal information confidential.
  • Provide appropriate and safe techniques in assisting with activities of daily living and independent living tasks (i.e. dressing, grooming, toileting, feeding, etc.).
  • Demonstrates knowledge and use of all learned information during the training videos and orientation classes.
  • Required to attend monthly in-service meetings or as needed
  • Demonstrates safe transfer and ambulation techniques for each client.
  • Monitors medication, passes medication, and carries out other health related tasks after passing the medication test and being trained by a licensed nurse.
  • Interacts with the clients and participates in activities with them.
  • Assists in securing or providing transportation in accordance with state laws for clients.
  • Assists with meal planning, preparation and safety eating and ensures adequate intake of nutrition and fluid intake.
  • Immediately reports changes in client’s body functioning to the licensed nurse.
  • Recognizes emergency situations and the appropriate action to take
  • Performs household duties as assigned (i.e. changing bed linens, washing clothes, cleaning the kitchen, cleaning the bathroom, cleaning client’s quarter, fold laundry and more).
  • Maintains a clean and healthy environment.
  • Assists the clients with developing and implementing community inclusion activities, as well as, facilitating social interaction and positive behavior.
  • Maintain records of patient care, condition, progress, or problems to report and discuss observations with supervisor or Careprovider(s).
  • Provide active treatment to residents which may be include entertaining, conversing with, read aloud to the clients, etc.
  • Assist clients in walking or exercising.
  • In addition to these responsibilities, if you are working overnight, you are required to remain awake in order to properly monitor clients and document accordingly. You will also be assigned various responsibilities that must be completed in a timely manner.
  • Depending on which facility you are working at, you will be assigned different duties to include but not limited to the following:
  • Check on clients every 2 hours.
  • Bed checks must be recorded properly every 15 minutes in a computerized system.
  • Charge suction and feeding machines;
  • Prepare breakfast, may have to do some light cooking
  • Ensure all necessary items are in place for Saturday Program (i.e. lunches, sunblock, money, etc).
  • May be required to commute and assist in other group homes during assigned shift.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Care Provider, QIDP, and/or Administrator

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to carry, push, pull and move objects
  • Frequent and prolonged bending, stooping, crouching, walking and standing.
  • Able to work outside in different weather conditions.
  • Able to walk for extensive periods of time.
  • Able to at least lift 50 lbs

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Must be punctual
  • Attends in-house and other meetings as required.
  • Orientation classes must be completed within 90 days of your hire date
  • CPR/AED must be taken annually (company paid class)
  • First Aid must be taken every two years (company paid class)
  • Physical examinations and TB test or Chest X-ray are to be taken annually

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

  • High School or GED required
  • Must meet all insurance requirements which include a valid driver’s license with a good driving record
  • Clear a background check.
  • Relevant experience is desirable, but not essential.
  • Must be able to comprehend and communicate in English
