Residential Tech Support & Customer Service Specialist (Contractor)

Neighborhood Nerds is a trusted provider of in-home technology solutions. We help everyday people make sense of their tech—from setting up new computers and Wi-Fi networks to configuring smart home devices. We believe that great tech support starts with a great attitude, and we are looking for friendly, patient, and customer-focused Contractors to join our team.

Position Summary

Are you the go-to person when your friends and family need help with their gadgets? Do you love helping people and solving problems?

Unlike typical corporate IT jobs, we prioritize customer service and communication skills over advanced technical degrees. As an On-Site Technician, you will visit residential clients to help them set up, troubleshoot, and enjoy their home technology. This is a flexible contract (1099) position—perfect for anyone looking to earn extra income while helping their local community.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • In-Home Tech Assistance: Travel to residential client homes to set up and troubleshoot everyday tech, including smart TVs, streaming devices, Wi-Fi routers, printers, computers, and tablets.
  • Patient Customer Service: Guide clients through their tech issues with patience, empathy, and clear, jargon-free explanations.
  • Device Unboxing & Setup: Help clients unbox, physically set up, and configure new tech purchases.
  • Basic Troubleshooting: Diagnose simple software, hardware, and connectivity issues (e.g., getting a device back on the Wi-Fi or resetting a password).
  • Professional Reliability: Arrive at scheduled appointments on time, represent the company professionally, and respect clients' homes.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Customer Service Superstars: Previous experience in retail, hospitality, customer service, or client-facing roles where making people happy was your top priority.
  • Reliable Transportation: Must own a reliable car and possess a valid driver’s license to travel between client residential locations.
  • Tech-Savvy Attitude: You don’t need to be a coding genius, but you should be highly comfortable navigating smartphones, computers, smart TVs, and home Wi-Fi networks.
  • The "Patience" Factor: Ability to stay calm, friendly, and helpful when working with non-technical clients (like senior citizens or busy parents).
  • Background Check: Must be willing to undergo a standard background check, as you will be entering clients' homes.

Compensation & Schedule

  • Job Type: Contract (1099)
  • Location: On-site residential dispatches within the Boston area.
  • Schedule: Flexible. Build your own schedule based on your availability and client demand.
  • Compensation: Contract technicians are paid $25 per job OR 25% of the total service cost, whichever is greater for the completed ticket.

How to Apply

If you love tech and love helping people, we want to hear from you! No formal IT certifications required—just a great attitude, a reliable car, and a willingness to help.

Pay: From $25.00 per hour

Benefits:

  • Flexible schedule
