Description of Responsibilities and Duties

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 Coordinates resource sharing to local library branches and NC Cardinal Member libraries

statewide by processing incoming and outgoing materials in a timely, efficient manner.

 Coordinates daily operations of the department and coordinates assistance from library staff.

 Utilizes advanced resource sharing techniques and follows NC Cardinal best practices to

provide exceptional customer service through efficient delivery of materials.

 Provides leadership in planning, prioritizing, and organizing resource sharing in response to

established library goals and priorities.

 Receives materials from statewide libraries requiring unpacking boxes and checking in

materials to fulfill internal holds for local branches; shelves materials at main branch.

 Collects, sorts, counts, and boxes materials for outgoing shipments to regional and statewide libraries.

 Resolves material or service problems, clarifies user complaints, determines cause of

problems, selects and explains appropriate solutions, expedites corrections or adjustments,

and follows through to ensure resolution; resolves issues of missing and damaged items with

other NC Cardinal libraries.

 Drives library vehicle to provide daily courier service to local branches and maintains vehicle

to include fueling, washing, and coordinating routine maintenance and inspections.

 Creates and maintains process and procedure documentation related to resource sharing.

 Maintains shelves through shelf check, routine book maintenance

 Performs other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 Knowledge of library policies and procedures.

 Knowledge of resource sharing best practices.

 Knowledge of, and skill in using, library automation systems.

 Knowledge of library collections and various informational materials and resources found in a

public library.

 Skill in effective verbal and written communication.

 Skill in the proficient use of computers and applicable software programs.

 Skill in providing quality customer service and assist library users of all ages.

 Ability to interact positively and effectively with the public.

 Ability to maintain effective working relationships with coworkers.

 Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment and remain calm in high pressure

situations.

 Ability to analyze and resolve problems with minimal supervision.

 Ability to maintain flexibility in dynamic work environments and with work assignments.

 Ability to organize work effectively, determine priorities, make decisions, and complete

assigned duties.

 Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with staff and work well in a team

environment.

 Ability to compile and maintain records, perform data analysis, and prepare reports.

 Ability to demonstrate commitment to professional development.

Moderate physical requirements for:

 sitting, standing for periods of time, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, lifting and moving

materials up to 30 pounds.

 pushing loaded carts of library materials.

 skill, adeptness, and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving repetitive

motions.

 ability to operate a keyboard at efficient speed and typical office equipment.

 vision and hearing at, or corrected to, normal ranges.

 occasional exposure to outside weather conditions.

Pay: From $13.00 per hour
