Specific function of the Resource Support Specialist:

Develop Accommodation Summaries

Each student who receives accommodations will have documented areas of need which is generally done in collaboration with the student, his parent or guardian, and one or more of the school faculty. The Resource Support Specialist then makes sure that the student’s parents, other teachers and school administrators understand the Accommodation Summary and use it to monitor the student’s progress.

  • Write Accommodation Summaries, write revisions, and document RTI (Response to Intervention)
  • Coordinate with county resources for testing when needed.
  • Go to county meetings to represent Christ Chapel Academy.

Provide Instruction

The Resource Support Specialist also works on planning, delivering, and evaluating instruction for special education students, based on each student’s individual needs. This may include writing lesson plans, designing activities, creating and grading assignments. The Resource Support Specialist may work to provide resource and support services to students, either in a separate resource room or in a classroom with general education students.

  • Teach and reteach information both in the classroom setting and in the small group setting.
  • Administer tests and quizzes in a quiet setting when needed.

Ensure Accommodations

The Resource Support Specialist is responsible to ensure that the students Accommodation Summary is provided to the general education teachers.

  • Support in the general classroom through team teaching, group instruction, or pull out when needed.

Coordinate Efforts

Special education students, like all students, benefit when the adults involved in their care work together. A critical part of the Resource Support Specialist's job involves coordinating the work of parents and professionals (teachers, administrators, physical and occupational therapists and social workers) to maximize the benefits to the students.

  • Hold round table conferences with all teachers and parents quarterly.
  • Classroom support, professional collaboration and suggestions for students who struggle.
  • Work with classroom teachers to identify students who struggle and make recommendations for strategies both to the classroom teacher and to the parents when outside tutoring or testing would be beneficial.
  • Coordinate with the counselor and principal for developing inclusion students’ eligibility for accommodations for Standardized testing.

Other Duties:

  • The teacher shall assist the Principal in the performance of other duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the safety, spiritual and academic well-being of CCA students.
