Job Summary

The Respiratory Care Practitioner II - Transport is responsible for the planning and delivery of family-centered patient care utilizing the respiratory care process: assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Responsible for coordinating respiratory care for patients based on established clinical respiratory practice standards and protocols. Collaborates with patient/family and other professional disciplines to create a partnership which ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery for the achievement of mutually desired patient outcomes. Support the organization's vision and mission by promoting and providing excellence in respiratory care. Accountable and responsible for deliverance of respiratory care for all aged pediatric and neonatal patients requiring medical Advanced Life Support (ALS) or medical Critical Care Transport (CCT) under the supervision and in collaboration with a Transport Clinical Nurse and CHOC Children's Physician. Accurately assesses, attempts to restore and maintains the well being of the ill and/or injured pediatric or neonatal patient during intrafacility or interfacility ALS or CCT transport. Obtains and maintains competency in advanced scope of practice skills which include intubation, intraosseous insertion, needle thoracentesis, and resuscitation.

Pay Range

Minimum $39.49 Midpoint $52.33 Maximum $65.16

Rate of pay is determined by various factors, including but not limited to knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, education, as well as position requirements.

Experience

  • Required: Minimum three (3) years of previous pediatric/acute care respiratory experience.
  • Preferred: Five (5) or more years of critical care respiratory care in a pediatric inpatient hospital. Previous transport experience.

Education

  • Required: Graduate of an accredited two (2) year Respiratory Therapy Program.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Respiratory or other related health major.

Training

  • Required: None required.

Specialized Skills

  • Required: Knowledge of and ability to provide appropriate patient care depending upon age appropriateness and cultural and spiritual needs. Excellent customer satisfaction and communication skills. Ability to prioritize and complete duties in a timely and organized manner. Ability to work collaboratively and in a positive manner with others. Ability to prepare timely and accurate documentation reports. Ability to perform work according to CHOC policies and procedures, professional standards of care, and applicable laws. Ability to set goals and judge results in accordance with the highest standards; care with sensitivity and respect; advance care through development of new ideas and technology; promote teamwork to achieve CHOC's mission; and understand and exceed customer expectations.

Licensure

  • Required: Basic Life Support (BLS); Neonatal Resuscitation Provider – Advanced (NRP); Neonatal Resuscitation Provider – Essentials (NRP) ; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS); Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) – required if hired after December 31, 2009. Respiratory Care Practitioner – CA (RCP); Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • Preferred: Certified Asthma Educator; Neonatal Pediatric Specialty (NPS).

Work Environments - Functional Demand:

Light - Moderate energy level Lift and carry 25-35 lbs. Push/pull 50-100 lbs. (ie. empty bed, stretcher).
