Weekend Program, 36 hours per week. Every Friday, Saturday, Sunday.Job Summary:
The Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) 3 is a clinical expert. Demonstrates competencies in all respiratory assessments and all high acuity procedures for all patient populations and age groups as defined in the RCP 3 COT. Functions as an expert in critical care medicine utilizing knowledge and critical thinking skills to address patient care as it relates to the cardiopulmonary system and associated pathophysiology. Collaborates with the multi-disciplinary team to develop patient care plans utilizing evidence based medicine. Responds to situations with speed, confidence, flexibility, and has the ability to appropriately handle unanticipated problems or emergencies. The RCP 3 is a positive role model for his/her peers and consistently produces complete and accurate work. Precepts students and new hires on rotation. Exhibits leadership skills. In collaboration with the Pulmonary Services Leadership team, provides professional respiratory care to patients in accordance with the hospital's policies and procedures.
EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION:
A minimum of 2 years of experience as a licensed respiratory therapist with a minimum of 1 year critical care experience is required.
EDUCATION DESCRIPTION:
An associate degree from a CoARC accredited Respiratory Care program and an advanced specialty credential from the NBRC or asthma educator certification from the NAECB is required. In lieu of an advanced credential, a Bachelor's degree will be accepted. Staff hired into this role as of 7/1/21 who have an associate degree must obtain the advanced specialty credential by 10/1/22 to remain in this role. Staff hired into this role as of 7/1/21 who are actively enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program must complete it within 4 years to remain in this role. Bachelor's degree is preferred.
SPECIAL SKILLS DESCRIPTION:
Must have excellent interpersonal skills and exhibit a high level of professionalism. Advanced critical thinking skill, mentoring, presenting and instructional skills.
LICENSURE DESCRIPTION:
State of Wisconsin license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner is required. Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) for the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) is required. American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent is required. American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is required. American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) and Wisconsin Society for Respiratory Care (WSRC) membership is preferred. Advanced certification with crisis de-escalation (MANDT), Hospital HazMat, or special pathogens is preferred.
