Respiratory Nurse

Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Respiratory Nurse to join our healthcare team at Woodbury Heights Nursing and Rehab. Please only apply if you worked as a Respiratory Nurse in a nursing home before.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive respiratory assessments and monitor lung function using spirometry, pulse oximetry, and arterial blood gases.
• Administer inhaled medications (nebulizers, metered-dose inhalers) and manage non-invasive ventilation devices (CPAP, BiPAP).
• Perform airway management tasks, including tracheostomy care, suctioning, and emergency intubation support.
• Develop, update, and document individualized respiratory care plans in coordination with the interdisciplinary team.
• Provide hands-on training and education to residents, families, and nursing aides on equipment use, breathing exercises, and emergency protocols.
• Respond promptly to respiratory distress or failure, initiating interventions and escalating to medical providers as needed.
• Advocate for residents’ respiratory needs, ensuring compliance with infection control measures and pulmonary rehabilitation programs.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives, tracking respiratory metrics to reduce pneumonia incidence and hospital readmissions.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) licensure with an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
• Minimum of one year of clinical experience in respiratory care, critical care, or long-term care settings.
• Proficiency in operating respiratory equipment, ventilators, and interpreting diagnostic tests like arterial blood gases.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills for rapid intervention during respiratory emergencies.
• Excellent communication and teaching abilities to instruct residents, families, and multidisciplinary colleagues.
• Familiarity with geriatric care principles and the unique challenges of managing chronic respiratory diseases in older adults.

Schedule

• 5 days a week, rotating weekends, 8am to 4pm.
