Respiratory Therapist – Pulmonary & Sleep Medicine

With our first clinical hub successfully established in Fayetteville, we are expanding our pulmonary and sleep services in Cary and are seeking a motivated Respiratory Therapist who values innovation, efficiency, and patient-centered care.

This position offers a unique opportunity to work directly with a pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine physician in a highly collaborative clinical environment that integrates pulmonary diagnostics, sleep medicine, and longitudinal care management.

Position Overview

The Respiratory Therapist will play a key role in supporting pulmonary and sleep medicine services by performing pulmonary diagnostics, assisting with sleep-related testing and CPAP/BiPAP management, and supporting clinical operations across the respiratory and sleep departments. The ideal candidate is adaptable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary outpatient environment.

In addition to clinical diagnostics, the Respiratory Therapist will participate in chronic care management programs designed to support patients between office visits. This includes helping monitor and manage patients with chronic respiratory and sleep conditions through structured monthly outreach and care coordination.

ResponsibilitiesPulmonary Diagnostics

  • Perform pulmonary function testing including spirometry, lung volumes, and diffusion capacity
  • Conduct six-minute walk testing and other pulmonary diagnostic procedures
  • Ensure proper calibration, quality control, and documentation of pulmonary diagnostic equipment

Sleep Medicine Support

  • Assist with sleep-related testing and patient evaluations
  • Provide CPAP/BiPAP mask fitting, troubleshooting, and patient education
  • Coordinate with DME providers and assist patients with PAP therapy compliance
  • Support remote monitoring and follow-up of sleep therapy patients

Chronic Care Management

  • Participate in structured chronic care management programs for pulmonary and sleep patients
  • Manage a small panel of assigned patients with chronic respiratory and sleep conditions
  • Conduct monthly outreach and monitoring to help close care gaps between office visits
  • Track symptoms, adherence to therapies, and escalation of clinical concerns to physicians when needed

Clinical Operations

  • Assist with patient flow in pulmonary and sleep clinics
  • Support both front-office and back-office workflows when needed
  • Document testing and patient interactions in the EMR accurately and efficiently

Team Collaboration

  • Work directly under the supervision of a pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine physician
  • Participate in daily clinical coordination and case discussions
  • Contribute to a collaborative environment focused on improving care delivery

Qualifications

Required

  • Licensed Respiratory Therapist (RRT or CRT) in North Carolina
  • Strong knowledge of pulmonary physiology and respiratory diagnostics
  • Experience performing pulmonary function testing
  • Excellent communication and patient education skills
  • Ability to work in a dynamic outpatient clinical environment

Preferred

  • Experience in sleep medicine or PAP therapy management
  • Experience with CPAP/BiPAP mask fitting and DME coordination
  • Familiarity with outpatient pulmonary clinics or pulmonary diagnostics labs
  • Interest in population health or chronic care management programs

Training will be provided for candidates who have strong pulmonary diagnostic skills but limited sleep medicine experience.

Pay: $32.00 - $40.00 per hour
