Responsibilities
- Assess patients’ respiratory status through vital signs, oxygen saturation levels, and comprehensive physical examinations.
- Administer respiratory therapy treatments including nebulizers, aerosol medications, and oxygen therapy to enhance patient comfort and recovery.
- Manage and operate ventilators and other respiratory support equipment with precision and safety.
- Perform airway management procedures such as intubations, suctioning, and tracheostomy care in emergency and routine situations.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to develop personalized care plans for patients with acute or chronic respiratory conditions.
- Monitor patient responses to treatments, adjusting interventions based on physiology knowledge and clinical judgment.
- Document all patient assessments, treatments, medication administration, and responses accurately in medical records in compliance with hospital policies.
Requirements
- Valid licensure or certification as a Respiratory Therapist from an accredited program.
- Proven experience in hospital medicine, critical care environments such as ICU or PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit), emergency medicine, or Level I/II trauma centers.
- Strong understanding of physiology, anatomy, pulmonology, and medical terminology relevant to respiratory therapy.
- Hands-on experience with ventilator management, airway management techniques, and acute care procedures.
- Ability to perform patient assessment effectively in inpatient and outpatient settings across diverse populations including pediatrics and geriatrics.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required; additional certifications such as Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) are preferred.
- Familiarity with medication administration related to respiratory treatments and familiarity with hospital protocols for patient safety.
