Responsibilities
- Assess patients’ respiratory status through detailed evaluation of vital signs, oxygen levels, and pulmonary function tests.
- Administer respiratory therapy treatments such as oxygen therapy, aerosol medications, and chest physiotherapy according to physician orders.
- Operate and monitor ventilators and other respiratory equipment in acute care settings like ICU, PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit), and Level I/II trauma centers.
- Manage airway devices including endotracheal tubes, tracheostomies, and airway adjuncts with precision and safety.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans for patients with complex respiratory needs.
- Respond swiftly to emergency situations involving airway compromise or respiratory distress in hospital or outpatient environments.
- Document all patient interactions accurately within electronic health records while maintaining compliance with hospital policies and medical terminology standards.
Qualifications
- Valid licensure or certification as a Respiratory Therapist with current state registration or licensing requirements.
- Proven experience in hospital medicine, critical care, emergency medicine, or outpatient clinics—preferably within Level I or Level II trauma centers.
- Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, pulmonology, and the principles of respiratory therapy.
- Hands-on experience with ventilator management, airway management techniques, and medication administration related to respiratory care.
- Familiarity with vital signs monitoring, patient assessment procedures, and acute care protocols.
- Ability to work effectively in high-pressure environments such as ICU, PICU, or emergency departments.
- Excellent communication skills with a solid understanding of medical terminology and teamwork dynamics.
